Lighterlife Weight Loss Programme. Has anyone heard about this? It was featured on the Discovery Health channel. Apparently weight loss is spectacular, a stone or more a month. I can find a website, but it doesn't really explain what it is apart from counselling is included to get to the bottom of eating problems. It doesn't say whether it is real food or meal replacements or more importantly how much it costs. I have managed to glean that there is a counsellor in the area, but am reluctant to phone until I know what the cost is. Anyone got first hand knowledge? :?
LeJimster 16-07-2003, 15:26 a stone or more a month?? What do they do? Send u out to a 3rd world country? lol.
I wouldn't mind losing 3 stone of fat myself, but i love my beer too muc :(
stephstellar 17-07-2003, 20:37 Unless you are morbidly obese, losing weight that quickly is VERY BAD FOR YOU! About 2lb a week is a healthy weight loss, and if you lose weight slowly you are more likely to keep it off.
Yes Steph, I do know that. I was enquiring simply out of interest as to how a person can lose that much that quickly. As far as I know you have to be at least 3 stone overweight to go on the programme.
stephstellar 18-07-2003, 21:38 Sorry, didn't mean to sound patronising or anything:blush: ! A lot of the weight loss, that fast, will be water, followed by muscle, and finally some fat...
It can't be good for you I agree. Should be done slowly and gradually for lasting results
LeJimster 20-07-2003, 00:45 I read awhile back about some kinda Ultrasonic wave device they were using to break fat down? Anybody heard anything about that? Or is that only for extreme circumstances?
Everytime i try to diet, the most i can keep it up for is about 1 week... I can do the exercise part for months, but i eat too much :(
Don't diet!! It's expensive, dangerous, and depressing. Learn to love your body as you are! You are wonderful, unique, special, beautiful. You are exactly as you are meant to be! Don't diet!!
Jules Student 21-08-2003, 13:29 My top tip is not to eat too much in the way of carbohydrates in the evening (pasta, potatoes, bread etc) as you don't have the time to burn it off before going to bed (unless you're going dancing!). So, do the carb thing at lunch and eat protein / vegetables / salad in the evening. Also drink plenty of water - lots of folk think they're hungry when maybe they're just in need of a drink. Having said this I'll be having a pizza followed by some lagers tonight!
kittykat 21-08-2003, 14:13 never underestimate the power of situps. The difference is noticeable straight away, just beware of the flat stomach fat backside sydrome you get from only being bothered to do situps and nothing else.

Emma_Uk I couldn't agree more! Thats sure is a breath of fresh air to hear in this changable society that expects us to become something we don't want to become purely out of pressure! In my profession I work with people who have been scarred by the psychological effects of eating disorders including conforming to what they think other people require of them! My advice is to enjoy yourself, be yourself and love - FOR YOURSELF
yeah iv masterd the situps but now i still have a whacking great backside! Anyone suggest anything to get rid of the fat!
theres not too much but enough to want to get it shifted!
kittykat 24-08-2003, 17:13 ive heard that squats and leg lifts help with the backside but i didnt see any difference whereas i did with the situps. Also when i was at my thinnest and walked miles, did exercise bike AND squats and legups regularly my arse still stayed the same meaning i could never go below a size 10 with trousers. I think if its big its big and theres not much you can do. Blame the mother - i do.
I agree that one should learn to love ones body, be it fat or thin. But what about the health risks of carrying excess fat. Especially dangerous for women who are apple rather than pear shaped. These people are more at risk from heart disease, diabetes etc. I personally am happy slim or plump, but I do know that I feel much better when I am not carrying excess weight. I am more energetic, I breathe easier and generally feel better about myself.
*Twinkle* 26-08-2003, 17:52 I've been on a mad "diet and exercise" shopping session! lol! I am currently a size 12 top and bottom and would like to be in a size 10 trouser, but wouldn't mind keeping the top half of my body in a 12, perhaps more toned thats all.
I've tried loads of diets. Tons. The last one I did was the "Atkins" one, which made me a bit ill, I think I cut out my carbs too quickly. Anyways, I have just started the Slim Fast plan, the one where you have a;
250 cal breakfast (slim fast products ofcourse)
100 cal snack
250 cal lunch (slim fast meal replacement)
100 cal snack
600 cal meal of your choice
100 cal snack
So far so good I guess. The only problem with this one is that the slim fast shakes you have to have for breakfast are diabolical. Really! I've never been much of a breakfast person but their shakes are enough to put anyone off the most important meal of the day!!!
I've also bought myself the "Hotpants workout" by someone called Dan Karaty. This claims to get a stone off your bum, legs and tum in a month. (if you do the 42 minuteworkout everyday) and believe me it IS a workout! Especially the "two step" section....thats evil!!!
Has anyone else done slim fast?
I think the subject of my original thread was something similar to Slimfast, except Lighterlife call them meal replacement packs. Apparently you get counselling thrown in too. Still haven't been able to find out anything about the cost of it. You need to be clinically obese (3st or more overweight) to take part. I'll bet it's very expensive. Not sure I could exist on shakes and soups. I'm doing Slimming World at present and have lost 1 stone 8lbs. I don't go to the classes, just borrowed someone's book. I like the fact that I can fill up on pasta, potatoes and rice on a Green day. I have a large appetite so it suits me.
sweetascandy 10-09-2003, 11:34 Hi Susana I am currently on Lighterlife and it excellent. Contact me if you want to know more about it and hopefully I will be able to help you with your queries.
By the way it cost £45 per week
Don't pay for expensive diets, you can do it yourself for free, just change your diet to salads and fresh fruit, cut our sugar and pastry, reduce your fat intake. It will take time so be patient.
kittykat 10-09-2003, 23:39 Easier said than done though! ive found that the less you eat one day the more you eat the next. This holiday i was trying to go from a 10 to an 8 and ended up a 12 with all the crap ive been eating. I worry not though as hopefully i wont have time to eat sed crap once at uni.
I know it is easier said than done Kitty, but it is the only way, these patent slimming diets are just a big con trick and the weight loss isn't permanent, so one is wasting ones money. The only person who can make a lasting change is ones self, I had to go on a diet forty years ago and I am still dieting, or otherwise I would have been dead long ago.
One has to help ones self in this life and that is what a lot of people will not do, can't be bothered, it is too hard, I like sweet things, I like my food, it is nice to eat, well all those things apply just as much to me as anybody else.
I do not want a fat belly, nor put a strain on my heart, or get cancer through eating Junk food, or get varicose veins through the weight on my legs, in the end it is down to you, if you are not bothered, then you have to take the consequences.
If a person is not willing or able to help themselves in order to improve their health, then it shows a weak and hopeless character and so I say put up or shut up.
Heres how to lose weight. I have lost 2.5 stone in the last year.
*Cycle to Work
*Go to the gym in your lunch hour
*Cut out bread/sweets/savory snacks/beer 5 days a week (the weekend is free!! ;) )
It will start to fall off you. Its all about putting more energy out than you take in at the the end of the day.
.......and making your body work for the energy it gets so eat complex carbs like Potato's, Rice, Pasta instead of bread etc etc
also its better to eat a fist sized portion of Complex carbs and fist sized portion of Protein (meat/cottage cheese etc etc) every 3 hours than it is to just nibble and then a huge tea.
Breakfast is essential. Oats is best, palletable with skimmed milk, Raisons and Honey, all for less then 100 Cal!!!
Its not a fad diet and its guarenteed to work.
Al :)
I've tried the slim fast thing and you know what? It helps by making you feel full so that you can get on with your day and not feel hunger pangs. When you've slimmed down you'll depend on that feeling of fullness and it'll start all over again.
Going to the gym is another way - but how many of us drive there, work out and then drive home? Before we depended on cars to shorten journey times I bet we all did pretty well keeping fit by simply having to walk more.
Make small changes to your diet and lifestyle and I reckon you'll end up happy. Avoid the plentiful fast food outlets by making your own lunches or buy stuff that takes time to eat such as fruit, yoghurts, soups. It's all extra effort at first but surely worth it.
