Mark this day in your diary if you want to voice your views on Bus services in Sheffild.... October 22nd.
The council will be handing out questionnaires from a Marquee outside the Town hall and from a vintage bus touring the main suburbs and on First buses were routes have changed.
some of the questions being asked are...
which service do you use, have recent changes been for the better or worse, how reliable is your service, would you prefer better quality buses or cheap fares and would you like more buses on your route(s) or new areas not served at present.
The completed forms will be analysed by council officers and the bus operaters and chamber of commerce will be asked for their views.A final report will then be drawn up.

what i want is for my bus service to stick to it's timetable...

waiting 40mins for a bus thats supposed to be running every 7mins seems very wrong to me, especially when one does eventually come after about 25mins and its that full it has to drive past...

btw the bus service I'm talking about is the 41... the service has gone downhill the last few weeks, dunno why... its been getting progressivly worse the last 6 months or so... and the old joke of why 41's come in 2's is getting OLD now... especially when the other day it took 3mins to cross the road cus the bus I'd waiting 50mins for with my g/f in town was followed by 4 others when we got off!

It's not on the forum you should moan, but wait until the 22nd is here and go to Town Hall and moan.

Shame I'm in Birmingham on a business conference on the 22nd, there's a few things about the bus services in Stannington (or rather lack thereof) I'd like to mention.

The Council should undertake a survey of their own services before doing one on the bus services.

Shoddy workmanship, lazy employees, being told a gas boiler is defective because its new and they all do that?, now thats what I call service.

Perhaps when the boiler explodes, the council can do a survey on the Fire Service.

xafier you dead right... i get the 41 and im sick of it!!! ive bought a bike haha.. its about 1 every 30minutes. if that!.

bout 80% of bus drivers seem to be arrogent, nasty little men. granted there are a few nice ones. but i don't seem to run into them! i once put my name down as a witness to a driver being horrible to a woman and her kid using foul language and shouting. You took the job, You took the extra pay....do the job and shut up! i dont like my job but i treat customers as human beings.

i used to live in dronfield and the buses (thompson travel) were nicest drivers you would ever meet. they even stopped bus and woke me up at my stop once (was sleepy haha)

mainline are money grabbers this is true..... i suggest you ride to work (get fitter as well) or get the tram (nicer employees)

rant over! ;0)

I drive the 41 route and there are a few reasons why the service has got worse.

1. Granville Road has become a joke since Suffolk road layout was changed, traffic can back up all the way to the top of Granville road at peak times. Also people blocking the box junction where the Tram crosses causes big problems for us. It can take 15 mins to get from All saints to the other side of the Box junction, would be quicker but Bus lane is full of cars just like at Intake next to Fire station.

Thats why you can see up to 5 buses running back out of town together trying to catch up there time, and if they cant then they will be adjusted,in otherwords get permission to miss out parts of the route to get back on time

2. Road works outside the Train Station.

3. Buses diverted around trouble spots can cause Buses to be missing because windows smashed, Lamp posts sawn down and put across the bus gate (true!) tends to be on the Westfield Estate or Hackenthorpe or City Road well most of the route!

4. If there are not enough drivers to cover other routes for example 21, X85,30 then the company will drop 41's to cover these routes as they are a less frequant service.

5. Problems on the Bus, For example I had to take a Bus back to garage last night to be cleaned as someone had taken a wee on the upstairs of the Bus!

6. Things will get worse now Birley Moor Road has begun being resurfaced until next March.

Hope this helps!!

 ahh a subject close to my heart,do'nt want to rant to much on the forum but what excuse do the drivers have for leaving early
i use the 33 from galsworthy road terminus this is supposed to leave at 6.58,3 times last week it left 5 mins early.
i hope the buses are running on the 22nd.

I have managed to not use a single bus since they went on strike, the constant price rises and lack of actual service was starting to look like they were taking the P***.

I do have to walk more now, in the rain sometimes, but I get to work in less time and on a nice clean tram.

I realise this isn't an option for everyone though.
