View Full Version : Spa 1877
Anyone been, I have several times, You should try it, if you fancy a hot sauna, steam room , ice cave??/ and comp coffee and excellent service.
Its the best place to meet a mate for a long chat in a cozy bath robe.
Just had my hair cut there too , the hairdresser was excellent and they have a bar, wide screen tv, internet access and comp drinks.
Give it a go, if you like that sort of thing.
Sandra Spice 10-10-2004, 11:21 I've been several times & have to agree it's brilliant. We regularly take Spice there as a big group & it's a great event.
Dj_Shadowman 17-01-2005, 14:07 Sounds like my kind of place...where is it ?
Sandra Spice 17-01-2005, 14:21 It's on Glossop Road (top end of West Street). Used to be the old Glossop Road swimming pool.
Juicyb125 04-04-2005, 19:33 This is a truly wonderful place - it is a proper turkish baths and is really beautiful inside.
I took my mum for the day as a Mothers day treat and we loved it - spent all day in the spa having treatments and ended up in the salon having our hair done - really great! Will definitely do it again!
If you are interested http://www.spa1877.co.uk/spa1877.pdf will take you to their brochure.
I would definitely recommend it for a girlies day - I thought it was really reasonable and the results better than I have had anywhere else!
That's very kind of you to register and tell us that, and you even linked directly to the brochure, great! I hope this is the start of many equally informative posts about non-1877 related topics?
Well Geoff, it's like I was telling my mates at The Last Laugh Comedy Club, http://www.grinreaper.co.uk, you can get a really nice haircut on West Street.
cool- might suprise our lass!!!
Surprise her with a comedy haircut at the Spa?

Geoff, Spa 1877 is a business venture by Conrad Blandford (an internationally renowned hair stylist who used to work for Nicky Clarke in Manhattan). There is a hair salon (aptly named Hair 1877) underneath the spa - it is very nice indeed!
I went for a haircut there the other day, and whilst I was impressed by my surroundings, with the hair cut I was not.
I believe the phrase, "well and truly had" springs to mind... A trim and a (semi permanent) colour - best part of £100...
My hair did look nice, but value for money? Zilch.
I wouldn't mind, but you can barely tell I've had anything done, despite being told pre-colour that it would be really striking.
Happy bunny, I am not.
Juicyb125 25-04-2005, 17:12 I have been back to have my hair done since my last posting and I was extremely pleased with the results - I am a dark chocolate brown now.
Why don't you ring and tell them? Say that you were expecting a striking colour and you are disappointed with it. I am sure they would redo it..... Most salons do if you are not happy with the results and they have not delivered what they promised. At the worst you would get a voucher or something - it is always worth a try!

I have been back to the salon, and they were very accommodating... They (being a different stylist) re-did the colour and I am REALLY pleased with it. The service that I received this time was exactly what I had expected when I first went... Really friendly and attentive... :)
So, Spa 1877, I take back what I originally posted, and can honestly say, that I will be going back again... You're fab :)
I am looking for a new hair dresser, which stylist do you recommend?
Cheers
Juicyb125 10-05-2005, 16:49 Try Conrad - he is the manager and really good! He is also extremely nice!
rudedude1979 11-05-2005, 13:33 My girlfriend took me there for a birthday treat on Monday. I have never been to a Turkish bath before so didn't know aht to expect.
All the staff were very friendly and the service in general was excellent. I have never felt more relaxed in my life! I would recommend anybody to go.

Try this link www.spa1877.co.uk - it will take you to a pdf brochure and a virtual tour
I myself absolutely love the place - I find the staff really friendly the treatments reasonably priced and the actual baths themselves are beautiful.
I have my hair done regularly in the salon by Conrad and for a whole pampering 'ME' day it is just the best.
I would recommend it to anyone.
