I went to see my Nannan today and took my twins ( aged 15 months) to visit and she has been knitting for the first time in about 34 years. She's knitted a cardigan for my girls and is beginning another.
She got it out and I was touched at her thoughtfulness and her generosity and it brought some lovely memories to mind about my other Nannan... but.... the cardie is HUGE, there is no way on this earth that it's going to fit until the girls are at least 4 years old.
Does wool shrink in the wash? Would it shrink evenly if it does?

My other Nannan used to knit and I loved it, she made wrap around ballet cardigans for me when I used to go to dancing lessons and huge jumpers in winter with sleeves that I had to roll up several times. I don't think she ever used a pattern, just made it up as she went along, always funny but always cosy!
She made some gorgeous crotcheted baby blankets for my girls, even before they were born and died when they were just a few months old so we shall treasure them.
Just wanted to share a treasured mamory about knitting - but seriously - the shrinkage - can I do it or would it ruin the cardie?

What lovely memories. :) Not sure about the shrinkage though, would it be best putting the cardy away till it fits?

I'd agree with Wheezy. The cardi will thicken as it shrinks, so unless you want it to be like cardboard you're best waiting for the twins to grow into it. ;)
How lovely to have something knitted for your children though, it means so much more than just getting a jumper from Adams. Can I steal your Granma?

:hihi: How about putting both kids in the one cardy?! Keep em warm and use the cardigan instantly! Everyone's happy!!

LOL like that idea!
I'll save it then if it would be unpleasant after shrinkage. Thanks.
