Is Potter Hill water tower still used for water. Does it actually supply anywhere or is it just a disused landmark.

It is one of only 2 in Sheffield, the second being Norton tower unless anyone knows of another, and it is a local landmark in the north of the city. What are the plans for it, I hope they are not planning to demolish it.

Is ther anyone out there who knows a bit more about it?

Never heard of it - whereabouts in north Sheffield is it? A quick search on multimap gives the nearest Potter Hill at Greaseborough to the north of Rotherham.

If you come into Sheffield on the A61 from Tankersley (McDonald's island) as you cross from Barnsley boundary into Sheffield at High Green crossroads it's on the hill on the left. it's been there as long as I can remember but I want to know if its still in use.

Oh yes, I know where you mean now - must have passed it a thousand times.

Perhaps if you e-mailed Yorkshire Water they'd be able to help.

Otherwise the link below will take you to a book (quite expensive) about water towers - although no guarantee Potter Hill will be in it.
