Me and my partner are going to be moving closer to University this september as we both start respective courses in September.

We are looking for somewhere, preferably a 2 bedroom property in a nice area either in or outside Huddersfield with good access to the A629 route to Sheffield.

Any helpers?

Commute, its not too difficult. I travel to Barnsley Uni (affiliated through Huddersfield Uni) every day and its only about 40 minutes up the M1. Huddersfield is only a few junctions after that. It takes me longer to get to Sheffield Town Centre sometimes.

The local paper is the Huddersfield Examiner, that is their housing site.
Be aware that there as some dodgy areas best avoided under any circumstances, as with most towns.
If you ask the advisors at Uni they will point you in the right direction
It is not a bad town, but for decent nightlife you will have to go back to Sheffield or Leeds I am afraid. :(
Good Luck in your studies

My mate used to house share in the Milnsbridge area - avoid it unless you like being broken into and/or threatened :D

I think one of the worst now is Deighton, sink area full of violent crackheads, yardies, you name it.
30 years ago it was one of the best estates in the town.

Does anyone know of Riflesfields? Seen a nice property there.

You might want to consider somewhere near a train station on the Sheffield-Huddersfield line. Denby Dale and Honley for example both seem like decent areas with plenty of terraced (and presumably 'cheap') houses.

Would prefer a home along the '629' route too be honest just for accessibility. Nobody on this forum can do one better and recommend a letting agent/landlord along there can they?

Should be able to help you out.

Anywhere on the A629 wuld be ok, especially Shepley, Shelley area.

If you find somewhere in Udders itself let me know. I work with a girl from there so can suss it out for you.

When I was over there at a mates, he lived in Bradley, which is a big student area, close to the town centre. He was there 3 years and no problems at all.

Cheers

I'm moving to Huddersfield this year because my job's there and my boyfriend lives there so it makes sense. Apparently the one place you avoid at all costs is Fartown. As for Riflefields, I'm afraid I've never heard of it.

Like you, I am keen to keep my journey to Sheffield clear because I have a lot of friends here and will be travelling back lots. We have just put an offer in on a house in Meltham, which is a town / village south-west of Huddersfield, between Hudds and Holmfirth. I don't know how soon you want to move, but they are curently building a load of flats there that are due to be ready this summer.

Waterloo, Tandem and Dalton are also on the right side of town for getting to Sheffield via either the A61 or the motorway and are all okay as far as the area goes.

Anyone else moving to Huddersfield / living in Huddersfield?? Would be great to make some contacts there as it's more my boyfriend's territory than mine! x

Also, with regards to letting agents, Bramleys is by the far the most and most well-used estate agent in Huddersfield. After that, you could also try Gallery, William H Brown, Ryder and Dutton and Simon Blyth as someone else suggested.

Huddersfield is the hiding place of all evil. Avoid it like the plague!

I grew up in Huddersfield and only moved to Sheffield about two years ago. I still go back frequently as my family live there and still have plenty of friends to catch up with.

I love Huddersfield. The town centre is clean, I've never had any problems with abusive/threatening kids, and there're a lot of pedestrianised areas, which is always good for shopping.

I hold a different view to Artisan in reference to the nightlife. Granted there aren't as many clubs as Sheffield, but there are quality bars in abundance. There is a very high police presence on Friday and Saturday nights which always keeps the trouble down and a lot of the bars are concentrated around one area making it handy to stumble into the next one!

Village wise I would highly recommend Marsden. You can get into town in just over ten minutes on the train. It is a very picturesque village and all the residents are friendly. If you've ever seen 'Where the Heart is' on ITV, that's Marsden.

Hope you manage to find somewhere nice :)

Does anyone have any info on the following areas:

Paddock, Moldgreen, Tandem???

Tom

Mold Green is on the way in to Udders. Its supposed to be a nice area, I can only coment on driving through. Its only about a mile from town centre.

I used to visit Paddock most Saturdays. Its on the opposite side of town from driving in from Sheffield. Inner city, lots of terrace houses. Clean, but general area in need of rennovation/development. Mixed community, nearest example I could give in Sheffield would be Page Hall/Low Fields

Don't know Tandem I'm afraid

Cheers

Nowt wrong with Tandem, it's fine.

Having failed to find a house to buy, we are now considering maybe renting there while we carry on looking (I cannot cope with another winter of driving from Sheffield to Huddersfield through all manner of weather conditions in a bashed up Micra). Doesn't seem to be much out there though! If only there was a Huddersfield forum, it would make all the difference...
