Meaks 09-02-2007, 01:00 AM The new Sheffield Brewery Company's first experimental brews are now available.
Note: I keep updating this first post with the latest brews. :)
The Gardener's Rest has all four of the beers currently available, and the odd cask can be found elsewhere:
First Brew
4.2% Premium Bitter
Gone
Second Brew
3.5% Session Beer
Gone
Third Brew
3.7% Best Bitter
Gone
Fourth Brew
3.8% Golden Beer
Gone (now 'Five Rivers')
These are the first trial beers from Sheffield Brewery who I am advised will be aiming to have three regular beers (the names yet to be announced) along with monthly specials. Looks promising - be the first to sample them while they last. :)

Spring Steel
4.6% Premium Golden Ale
Five Rivers
Easy drinking, straw coloured, session ale. Hoppy aroma carries through to the finish from a combination of Fuggles and Goldings. 3.8%
Blanco Blonde
Continental lager style beer brewed entirely from lager malt and delicately flavoured with aromatic Saaz hops from the Czech Republic. 4.2%
Crucibal Bitter
Complex bitter brewed with a blend of pale, crystal and black malts. A mixture of two bittering hops provides a perfect balance. 3.8%
(Recently seen in the University Arms)
Seven Hills

Neepsend Lane.
I tried the First Brew tonight, not to my taste (a bit too pale and hoppy) but good beer none the less. I am hoping for a nice strong dark ale, stout or porter... :)
There was an article about the brewery in tonights Star I believe.

well you seem an expert on beer. Youre on every thread about beer. :D
BasilRathbon 09-02-2007, 12:17 PM I'm always willing to try new beers, parrticualrly local ones, but isn't the market in danger of being saturated? Real ale is still very much a 'niche' product, and how many of Sheffield's pubs have guest beers from micro-brewereis?
Andy C 09-02-2007, 01:50 PM Real Ale seems to have an improved image these days and is seen as the premium quality option, and the market is growing I believe.
The Gardeners Rest is the official brewery tap as the landlord there also co-owns the brewery, this pub is on Neepsend Lane. 53 bus stops right outside.
Some of the beers have also been seen in the Milestone, Kelham Island Tavern, Fat Cat and others in the area.
The official brewery launch takes place Saturday evening at the Gardeners Rest.
Leyther 09-02-2007, 11:42 PM Had a pint in the Milestone. nice pint, nice bar.

As you have a direct line to the Sheff Brewery Company, can you let me know if any of their ales will be on at the Gardener's this week? I hope to pop in sometime this week to try a few.....
Thanks,
Pete
Andy C 08-05-2007, 01:31 PM Gardeners is the official brewery tap, so there should always be at least some of their beers available.
Meaks 08-05-2007, 02:01 PM I believe they had (from memory on Sunday) Top Forge, Blanco Blonde, Spring Steel and possibly Crucible Best.
As Andy says though, there will almost definitely be some on.
Meaks 29-06-2007, 03:15 PM New beer!
Golden Frame

I missed my chance to get to the Gardner's back in May to taste some of the Sheffield Brewing Co's beer (as I remember, it was raining heavily!) and I think that it will be some time before I get the chance to again. Is it available elsewhere at the moment?
Meaks 29-06-2007, 03:27 PM I've seen it around in a few places (most recently the University Arms), but couldn't tell you anywhere that's definitely got any at the moment.
Meaks 29-06-2007, 03:30 PM From another thread:
Sheffield Brewery have condemned all beer allready brewed or still fermenting and need to clean/disinfect the premises and equipment. Should be back up and running soon.
Thanks Andy.
PeteM01 29-06-2007, 03:30 PM Thanks, Meaks. I have just read Andy's message in the Flood section about losing all of the current brews. I suppose it will be a while before I get to taste any.
Pete
jamesogt 29-06-2007, 04:30 PM Devonshire Arms Ecclesall Rd has been stocking it and it has been very popular even better seller than black sheep last week! Unfortunately no more until it is back up and running.
Though in August we will be running all Local beer on handpull in support of local businesses affected by the flooding, including Sheffield and Kelham Breweries, as soon as they have stock to sell.
