Hi All,

Thinking about buying in Beauchief. Would like opinions please - even harsh ones from t020 are welcome.

People have said "parts of Beauchief are good" in the past. What parts? What's wrong with the other parts

Thanks for advice in advance.

Cheers

We bought a house at the end of last year on Old Park Road, which is classed as Greenhill and we really like it, very friendly and quiet. I think further into the village is where kids hang out, but we haven't found it to be a problem. I would recommend the area. Hope that helps.

Hi
I lived on Old Park Avenue for a couple of years. The neighbours were very nice people but... any problems we had tended to be caused by gangs of kids. The roads at the other side of Abbey Lane, e.g. Folds Crescent etc., didn't appear to have these problems.

I live the other side of beauchief near the Baptist Church, peaceful, not a lot of kids hanging around. Good catchment schools. Used to have the worst pharmacist in the area but fortunately he sold out. Public transport is a bit scarce and we get a mobile library on thursday afternoons (why!) The view of the golf course is pretty. You can't get channel five or four without a good tv aerial. I live on a road with blasted lime trees which the council dont cut which makes cars really sticky in Summer.

Hey Casten, We've put an offer on a place on Old Park Avenue.. what sort of problems did you have with gangs of kids? And how often?

Thanks all for your replies - very useful and informative. Even more would be welcome!

Generally the kids hung around where the Spar shop is but occasionally they would wander down. Some problems were - bins tipped over, 'For Sale' signs taken from front gardens and lobbed into other people's gardens, one time the sign hit our car and caused some damage, idiot children who rode on about on mini-motorcycles, on the road, aged well below the legal age to drive, our car was stolen. But...these incidents were reasonably rare and, as I said before, the vast majotity of people who live around there are very nice people and very good naighbours.

We've lived in the area for over 20 years and wouldn't want to move. It's very friendly and the local kids are no more of a problem than kids in most areas, I would say. The local shops and facilities are adequate and the local schools have served our kids very well.
