View Full Version : Transfering files from mac to mac carcrash 08-02-2007, 13:59 I've just brought a mac laptop and i want to transfer a load of files from my desktop mac to the laptop. is it possible to do it with firewire ports and a cable? sallonoroff 08-02-2007, 14:12 easy if you have Tiger (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/setup/) or you could try this (http://www.macberkeley.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7&Itemid=4). . defstef 08-02-2007, 15:00 Hi Carcrash... A third alternative, which lets you transfer files while both desktops are active, is to connect the machines via Firewire and then select "connect to server" (Apple-K) from the 'Go' menu on one of your machines. Type afp://computer-name.local (replacing computer-name with whatever it is referred to on System Prefs/Sharing on the target machine). You are then prompted for the password for the target machine and able to access files. Saves you the bother of having to reboot in target disk mode. If you're having any difficulties, try accessing from the laptop rather than the desktop (although I'm sure this is just an idiosyncrasy of my set-up) or messing around with the file sharing tags (again in sharing). carcrash 08-02-2007, 16:18 Many thanks, everybody has told me that this wasn't possible but I remember doing it with my older macs a few years ago. |
