Hi

I want to use part of a mp3 file and want to know what software is available to allow me to crop parts of it and record the bits I need?

Audacity is a great free program, but I think if you use it then when you save the result, the mp3 will be re-encoded and quality will be lost.

If quality of the result is important to you use a program that directly snips the mp3 file e.g.

Mp3 Direct Cut
http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html

It's great for cutting songs you like out of podcasts and mp3 "mixtapes"

true. just like recoding from cassette to cassette in the *old days*.
