am fairly into clubbing for about ten years and house music and that but have wound it down in the last few.

I used to go to rise at the leadmill and all points north at unit and club bed and there was generally a quality friendly vibe there where you could easily get talking to strangers and have a laugh (fair enough a lot of this was cos of ecstasy).

However , I went to hed kandi on saturday and didnt have any drugs but there were so many arrogant girls who I think were from out of town who looked down there nose at you and weren't up for chatting. (Most weren't that fit anyway).

People need to be more down to earth and they would have more fun

what's everyones views?

Here's a thought, some people go to hed kandi for the music and to be left alone ? Not every girl wants to spend the whole night out with her friends, polietely chatting to random men until they get the message to leave them alone...

i know what hes saying. the hairdresser mafia look down their nose at everyone else. hed kandi isn't about music its about what you wear, where you stand, who does your hair, its a triumph of style over substance.

go to UG or DQ and you'll have a far better night

Hed Kandi is a shadow of it's former self - I stay away now and have for a couple of years.

Check out Fierce Angels when it's finally on in Sheffield - that should be a good party night like HK was a long time ago.

sadly theres little chance of fierce angels ever being on in sheff because of lack of venue, which is a pity because mark doyle says its one of his favourite places to play

Thanks for that man :)...

Difficult to kow where to stand on this topic... I think that in large venues it's always going to be difficult in Sheffield to get a crowd and atmosphere that's all about the music and so there will inevitably be people there who are there for other reasons, whether it's to look good, get laid, whatever... That's not because of Hed Kandi though.. The tunes are pretty good (if anyone came to our Sunrise Sessions the guys played some real good stuff), the guys who run it seem to be pretty sound lads...

PS
DQ is a smaller club so technically there's less girls here... :D

I haven't heard the phrase 'hairdresser mafia' for years! I don't think i've seen them since the bed days to be honest although a few of them used to frequent hustle occasionally. Nothing against hustle though coz its a top night out.

Prententios little girls who are more bothered about being seen in the right bars/places with the right people than actually having a good night out.

Unfortunately Hed Kandi is all about life style. Music lacks any soul and is just hand bag pop house. When people start going out for the MUSIC and not the fake scene it may portray, THEN the UK music scene will get back to the good old late 80's early 90's.

Basil, there has been some underground house nights that are proving to be popular. So there is a glimmer of hope. No it well never be as good as back then but atleast back then people were more open minded about listening to different styles of music, where as nowadays the music is dictated by the industry and not the people or real djs. Hence alot of genres of music in the UK have stereotypical scenes.
By the way, if you love music, you are NEVER to old for clubbiing. My uncle still djs and he is 70.

crasher is corporate, its establishment so any night there is bound to attract people who aren't into music and into image. thats been the way in clubbing as long as i can remember and before.

This is one of the reasons why I go to Fuzzy'D at club shhhh cos it's all about the music and has a fun outlook to clubbing... As a girl who goes clubbing regular, it's important there is none of this looking down on others and because fuzzy is run by other clubbers, who just want to enjoy the music, I know i'll have a good time.

Fair play on this, but as a lad who never goes clubbing to 'pull' the quote below hits the nail on the head!! Spot on My friend, everyone in the office is wondering why I cant stop laughing but I couldn't have put it better myself 'Hairdresser Mafia' :o)

"i know what hes saying. the hairdresser mafia look down their nose at everyone else. hed kandi isn't about music its about what you wear, where you stand, who does your hair, its a triumph of style over substance.

I guess it depends on where you usually go as well, i.e. If you go to GC1 during the week or Mingdom that is what you expect when a guy comes to chat to you. If you are usually at dance music events and have an appreciation of the scene you know that people may smile at you across the dance floor or say hi, just because they feel like it or the tune that just dropped seemed to catch both your attention :o))))

I would suggest it could also depend on how you approach people but what a downer if you just can't help smiling and saying 'Hi' only to be glared at and shunned away.

How many crap nights out would I have had if someone random hadn't just started speaking to me whilst I was sat down on my tod taking a breather...

And I will tell you whats even more refreshing, when its some meat head with the hugest smile on his face looking at you saying 'This is a ******* Tune' and putting their arm over ur shoulder. When else in your day to day life would something like that happen between 2 strangers!?

I have seen so much crap in the behaviour with clubbers in the past 6 years, its good to read that some people still go to clubs to party and network and socialise with people. for some reason a lot of the love has gone since 10 years ago. True there were snobery and attitude but now 2007 sometimes it is unsafe to go clubbing for fear you may speak to someones girlfriend who is violent etc. Crazy times we are living in.

Just a general point about HK - it caters now for the masses i'm assuming - i haven't been for ages and ages and because it's popular it tends to attract people from all over the place, so not the intimate atmosphere you get in less commercial venues/nights. Hence the perception of people being more unfriendly.

Still, back in my day everyone got on and got off! but that was The Shoom and Astoria days in tripped out London ;p

anyways original poster here. Thanks for the advice im goin to check out DQ's..........like someone else has said..I'm sad the love has gone from clubbing...I go to hed kandi for a variety of reasons and actualy did pull. But after having certain members of the full on hairdresser mafia looking down their noses at me, I sort of went round deliberatley winding them up and finished up gettin kicked out of the vip area for tellin one to "sue the charm school" and other stuff like that.

Is this cool or uncool?

As for top clubbing nights / venues

In no particular order

Last GC at the Adelphi - 22nd Feb 1997 (10 years ago!!)
Rise - Trash 3rd Birthday
Rise - PVD first time he played in Shef (i think)
Sunday Best at the Forum - 1st time I heard "Bad Habit" being played
1st ever GC I went to at the Arches
Headcharge - Escape from Samsara at the Arches
1st ever Delirium - at Unit on a Sunday
Al Points North - Full Intention and DJ Disciple

... oh the memories (or lack of!) LOL x

I think the affordability of cocaine has a lot to do with the rise of attitude in clubs. Disco dollys and armani clad builders/joiners coked off their heads is not a recipe for a good night out. Unfortunately there aren't many good 'underground' clubs left. Many purport to be but are just dirty cheese shacks.

Bouncers can turn people away for whatever reason they want. In late 2000 during the hard house boom I was in London with my girlfriend and two male friends. We'd been to a hardcore event first called Future Dance in Elephant and Castle, and as big hard house fans we'd decided to visit Trade afterwards - "where hard house began".

We went back to one of the guys' house after Future Dance and changed so that we weren't turning up dressed as ravers. When we arrived at Trade at around 4am the door picker asked us if we were gay, we all said no, so he said that he couldn't let us in. Being ravers, none of us had any problem whatsoever with gay people, so we were all stunned when they turned us away.

ALERT: Bouncers must have a valid reason to refuse entry. There was a documentary on BBC1 last month where 2 clubs have been investigated for racial discrimination. These 2 clubs are now facing serious allegations and the case is continuing. If found guilty both hi profile clubs can lose there license. In response to the person being turned away from a gay club. The club in question must have a valid reason for this person not being able to come in, ie) dress code, style, aggressive behaviour etc.

In London alot of high profile clubs operate on a guest list. So you have to be on the guest list to guarantee entry as a lot of celebrities frequent the events there. That is why door men can get away with turning people away and that is one of there reasons.

Agree with most posts on here. HK was best at Bed.. never forget the first time I saw / heard Pav on Percussion... awesome!

Al Points North - Full Intention and DJ Disciple

... oh the memories (or lack of!) LOL x

how the F**k can you remember all that???

p.s trash was amazing at RISE.

If you are serious about this you could make a complaint to the club and ask why you was not allowed in. I feel the club would probably give you free tickets for a future event. If they do not respond to your complaint you can seek legal advice via solicitors. How did they know you was not gay.

JUST TO SAY

Fierce Angel will be making an appearance in Sheff sometime soon...
I couldn't leave my favourite town alone and we had to come back sometime.
We're speaking to a couple of venues and we should have something finalised very soon... just watch this space... while we are sorting everything out if anyone has any suggestions about where you's like to see us please let me know !

mark doyle ...that ex hed kandi bloke and now in charge of fierce angels!!

I'm intrigued Mark ... I'd love to see you in a smaller place than the Republic - more of the intimate atmosphere that was Bed ..

And can I just add folks .. I now regularly attend a Soul weekender in Southport twice yearly - 5000 like minded people .. NO ATTITUDE ... fantastic music !

And you regularly get those "moments" when a DJ does something incredible that you just didn't think was possible .. (Karizma I love you!) - or drops a tune that is an utter classic ....and you turn to see smiles on everyone's faces, tears on some .... hands in the air, classic memory time !

Mark, keep me informed . xx

am fairly into clubbing for about ten years and house music and that but have wound it down in the last few.
