View Full Version : Scam tele-sales calls
Hiya All!
Has anyone being receiving persistant telesales/tele-rubbish
calls recently, saying.........
-You have won either:
-A Mercede's,
-2wks in a luxury hotel....... ect ect!
Pls call premium £1.50min line!
I Have been left several voice messages. (Was left 7 message's by this same place Tuesday!)
Therefore, anyone else calling can't leave a voicemail!
Anyone else getting these calls? Or is it just me?

-Don't know why getting so many tele-sales calls!
If your telephone number x-directory & don't give details out!
(ie loyalty cards/ marketing)
It's horrible how they prey on some people............ Like your Gran Pitsmoor.
This place seams like a total scam......because not even anything to sell!

Your in the middle of something, and the phone rings. You end up rushing to it, stopping what oyur doing. Pick it up and there is no-one there.

WallBuilder 07-10-2004, 23:25 I sit down to munch on something and the phone goes, my favorite program starts and the phone goes. At these times I let the answer machine pick up and most times they hang up but have had one recently about a holiday in Florida that just keeps on repeating till the answer machine is full.
However if they ring and I've got a bit of time on my hands I chat to them, all sorts of stuff, were are they ringing from, what's the weather like, and if it's a female the odd compliment on their gorgeous accent, Sometimes they do talk for a while ttrying desperately to shut me up so they can tell me why they're ringing but it's to late and I usually finish abruptly with an 'Oh I'm sorry I've just noticed the time I've got to go' then hang up.
Well it entertains me and hopefully runs their phone bill up.
LMAO @wallbuilder.
I think Ive had the same company.
Ive been with TPS for some time but just had to re-register as I had started getting a volume of stupid calls.
There is a company in the US, preisdential cruises or majestic or something and they ring about once a fornight to tell me Ive won something great if I can take 1 minute to answer a questionairre.
My response is generally 'Im terribly sorry but no I dont have a minute, bye' and the phone goes down.
They once made the fatal mistake of ringing me while I was watching a DVD, the phone went straight down after they said 'Hi this is the majestic/presidential..'
TPS rocks and EVERYONE should register, then double glazing/phone service/blue chip/magazine subscription telesales companies would go out of business YAY!
There are several ways to get some entertainment out of these folks. Firstly, if it's a woman calling, put on your best pervy voice and tell her she's got a lovely voice, and you could listen to her all night.....voom she's off like sugar off a shovel, if it's a man do the same but with a light flavoured voice. Second, do as Wall builder suggests, the phone bill from Mumbai soon adds up. Third, the good old **** off medicine at 110 decibels and they soon slam the phone down.;) :heyhey:
LoopyLou 08-10-2004, 12:24 If someone cold calls me at home and starts by saying
Is this a convenient time to......
I reply, no, please give me your home phone number and I will call you back. They reply, no you can't phone them at home ..
to which I reply, well don't B****Y phone me at home then! and I put the phone down......
Does not really get me anywhere - but makes me feel better at the time. :P

What I do is politely ask them if they could hold on for a minute, then I gently rest the receiver next to the phone, then get back to whatever I was doing before.
Invariably when I go back to the phone 15-20 minutes later, they've mysteriously disappeared!
I get really sick of the phone calls that now have the automatic computer voice, they ring up then don't even have the manners to have a human talk to you!
We have also had bad problems with our phone number and debt agencies trying to get hold of a certain person, I guess we got given their number as they never lived at our address according to the landlord.
garrence 09-10-2004, 21:53 In addition to registering with TPS (which is very effective), download and print out the complaint forms from the Information Commissioner on the page (http://www.informationcommissioner.gov.uk/eventual.aspx?id=95)
When someone calls, make out you are interested so you can get their company name and address for the form.
There are other forms on that page for the automated calls and emails/sms sent from the UK.
They are for complaining under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations Act that came into force in December last year.
The Act makes it illegal for a UK company to send you spam unless it has your permission.
mega_monty 09-10-2004, 23:02 Another tip is to get your phone set up so that it does'nt accept calls that are "number witheld" which most telesales / spam calls are, therefore they simply cant get through to you.
