I have to admit I find this a moral dilemma as Cancer Research UK openly admits to experimenting on animals (http://info.cancerresearchuk.org/publicpolicy/briefings/science/animals/). "Please sponcer me to help fund the torture of dogs, cats and rabbits" doesn't quite sound so ethical, does it?

And especially when companys like Neways which is one of the biggest anti-cancer companys, they investigate cancer causes ingredients in house hold products yet all the big companys that just care about profit and not willing to listen to there findings.

Yea, I'll be doing it again this year ! I don't think the people who harp on about experiments being done on animals to develop anti-cancer drugs have ever lost a loved one to cancer or they wouldn't have such opinions. ( that's just my opinion, by the way, so don't shoot me down in flames )!

I hope that wasnt to me.
What your doing is great but maybe we need to start getting major companies to stop using ingrediants that are linked to cancer aswell. Every thing helps.

You sure its not beer that makes you sick?

I mean did you really vomit after reading the comments above?

And to pick up on your spelling again, the plural of life is lives, not lifes.

Not having a go here, but ( God forbid ) if you were diagnosed with cancer and the only drug that would give you a chance of survival or cure had been tested on animals - would you accept the treatment ?

Of course they would. But you know what people on here are like. Say one thing and do another.

Plenty of people who oppose animal testing have lost relatives/friends to cancer, myself included.

Using animals in medical testing is not a black and white issue, while some scientists argue that animal testing is vital, there an increasingly large body of research that says exactly the same results can be achieved through non-animal testing, but animals continue to be used because of precedent and cost (which is what I find utterly unacceptable).

I recommend reading around the subject rather than ranting about how we make you feel sick. You may surprise yourself.

Animal testing is a necessary evil to overcome diseases like cancer. I think the clue's in the website: "In certain areas, however, animal research remains essential if we are to understand, prevent and cure cancer."

Well done for doing the Race for Life- I'm thinking of doing it myself this year. I went along last year and it was moving to see the volume of people running, walking and jogging to raise money for this worthy cause.

To be fair , no one is ranting - just having an open, honest and frank discussion about our beliefs and opinions.

Well, if I make you sick then you won't be wanting my precious sponsorship money will you?

For what it's worth, my money is scarce, due to me losing my job because I've got cancer.

Please learn a bit of civility when addressing other forum users.

The thing is, while animal testing is nasty and horrible and nobody in their right minds would want it to happen if there were a viable alternative- there isn't. Scientists have developed a number of systems that have cut out a large chunk of animal testing, but these systems have their limits. Hopefully, in the future, a wonderful model will be created and we won't have to use animals again- unfortunately, we're not at that point yet.

A brief examination of threads on here will show that Forummers are very generous indeed; however, it helps to not insult people.

Folks have any number of reasons to contribute to charities, and any number of reasons not to.

The best approach is to thanks those who give, and ignore the ones who don't, rather than insult them.

Now - ground rules for this thread, which ISN'T about the rights or wrongs of animal testing...

If you want to give, give.

If you don't, don't.

That's all that's needed.

It was aimed at the OP - telling someone that they make you feel sick because you refuse to give money to their cause definitely counts as ranting in my book :/

I personally won't be giving her money as she spammed the Freecycle list with her off topic request this morning, but there you go.
