Well good and bad news - First daily tickets are being reduced in price slightly (compared to before the summer promotion) however weekly passes are going up. The following has now appeared on First's website.

First, South Yorkshire’s leading bus operator announced the end of its ‘FirstDay AllDay’ £2 ticket this weekend after a successful six weeks, which has seen over half a million customers in South Yorkshire making the most of unlimited travel across the region.

As the ‘FirstDay AllDay’ offer ends customers will see price changes for both FirstDay and FirstWeek tickets take place on Saturday 9th October. A FirstDay ticket will now cost just £2.20 or £2.70 before 9am, a saving of over 10% on prices before the ‘FirstDay AllDay’ £2 promotion. The new price for the Sheffield FirstWeek ticket is £12, local Rotherham or Doncaster FirstWeek tickets become £11 and the South Yorkshire FirstWeek ticket is now £14, all of which provide unlimited travel for 7 days at a maximum of £2 per day.

Brandon Jones, Commercial Director of First in South Yorkshire commented: “Our range of saver tickets continues to offer customers excellent value for money.” Mr Jones continued: “When looking at price changes this Autumn we’ve had to consider rising fuel costs and although we have had to adjust weekly ticket prices I’m pleased that we have been able to reduce normal day prices and hold monthly prices.”

The changes in price to FirstWeek tickets make the FirstMonth ticket an even more attractive proposition for the regular traveller. FirstMonth ticket prices remain the same at just £39 for Sheffield, £37 for Rotherham or Doncaster and £45 for the South Yorkshire version and entitles the holder to a full calendar month of unlimited travel on First bus services within their chosen area. FirstMonth tickets can be bought at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive Travel Information Centres or customers can save an additional £2 when they buy a FirstMonth ticket online at www.firstgroup.com

first are getting better at this.
last time the fare increase we were given 3 days notice
this time 1 day and one mention on r.sheffield news this afternoon.

also i wonder what the proper bus changes are going to be at the end of the month.
i know they appear on the sypte website but they just dont sit right as the sheffield ones are nearly the same as the rotherham ones.

take care all john

I bought a Day Saver this afternoon when travelling to a networking meeting in town - the driver was most helpful in pointing out the increases.

He also had a few dozy buggers to deal with, but dealt with the problems admirably!

The day Saver has been quite useful to me - I live in Wlakley which is 1.10 single to town; the current Day Saver at 2.00 has saved me a quid a week minimum!! I'll probably stick with the 2.20 ticket.

And if you walked in then you could save 10 pounds a week.

I haven't used the busses at all since they came back from strike. First are too expensive and too unreliable. The 95 is one of the worst services. There's a bus scheduled every 15 minutes but you can end up waiting 45 minutes for a bus.

It's a shambles; and it's much more pleasant to walk.

Ptigga,

I do work down in to town sometimes but I'm buggered if I'm walking up from Commercial Street to Walkley Library every day!

The service can be a pain in the arse in the evenings, but I've found that most of the time the services aren't that bad. I don't think that I've ever waited for more than 15 minutes, except for a couple of occasions getting the bus back from Commercial Street to Walkley in the evening between about 6-45 and 7-15.

Sorry you've had bad experiences!

The main problem I have with walking back from town is that it's quite boring - if I have along walk in the dark I like to have someone to talk to! And as for a pleasant walk....hmmm....I've known better stretches to walk through than from the top of West Street to University!

ah the 95.....the most elusive of bus beasts

I walk as often as I can now. The service is fairly reliable out of peak hours (although Sundays is a bit bad) but its always late (even at 7.08) between 7 and 9 and 4 and 6...Plus they only seem to have one double decker on now which would stop the overcrowding at busy times.

They also have the great habit of turning up 3 at a time. I waited 25 minutes for one on Wednesday and 4 came.

i remember someone saying thias would happen after the strike. Oh yeah it was me. Just surprised first waited so long.

Like I said in the strike thread, it the paying public that loses out twice, first with no buses during the strike, secondly fare increases after the strike.

Got back from York at 6pm last night and realised there was no way for me to get home. All our buses stop after 6. I was scuppered and had to wait for a different bus and walk a loooong way.

Yorkshire journey planner is quoting a service number 1 from City to Meersbrook 48 minutes past each hour until 22:48.

It then quotes a last journey at night of getting the Stagecoach number 255 bus at 23:08 to Heeley, then connecting into the number 8 bus from Heeley to Meersbrook at 23:25

Are these suitable evening options?

They sound quite similar prices to ours - £1.00 to go anywhere around London, adult bus ticket. Or one day London Bus Pass £2.50, and 40 p for 11-15. Under 11s - free. My 16-17 bus pass isd £15.40 a pcm, not bad.

Do you have something like that - all round the city for say £2.50 (daily bus pass) or whatever.

At least, we're not a few roads down as you're out of the London Borough of Bexley, and into extortionate Kent County Council prices. (£3.00 for a single ticket) well it was that for a trip from Rochester - Strood, extortionate.

Anyways, better carry on with this assignment on organisations!

it cost you £3 from Rochester to Strood?:o

a) Why get a bus - there's only a bridge between them

b) WHy the hell would you go to Strood at all?!

Travelmaster is a Transport Executive product, so they price that. They only changed the prices a few months back when they launched the zonal versions, so I doubt they will go up until next year now.

Generally I think that the value for money you get from buses in Sheffield is not too bad.

But what I do object to is the way they try and make out they are doing us some sort of favour with the price changes to Day Saver tickets

Yes, price rises are necessary sometimes. What galls people though is being told that it is for our benefit that we are going to have to pay more for a service that is no better than it was before.

The price of the day tickets have actually been reduced. It's the weekly tickets that have gone up by £1 a week.

First bus weekly tickets do seem expensive compared with the competition:

Yorkshire Terrier weekly Megacard is £7.50 (although of course Terrier generally stops running at 6pm)

Stagecoach South Yorkshire Megarider
Tram only £8.00
Tram + bus £8.50

Stagecoach operate the following bus routes in Sheffield
43/44 Sheffield-Woodseats-Dronfield-Chesterfield
50 Sheffield-Mosborough-Chesterfield
53 Sheffield-Mosborugh-Mansfield
252 Sheffield-Gleadless-Marsh Lane-Eckington-Waterthorpe
253 Sheffield-Woodseats-Coal Aston-Waterthorpe
255 Sheffield-Woodseats-Coal Aston-Waterthorpe
265 Sheffield-Chapeltown-Barnsley
747 Sheffield-Woodseats-Chesterfield-Nottingham (express)
767 Sheffield-Meadowhall-Anston-Worksop
M17 Dore-Totley Brook-Bradway-Low Edges-Greenhill-Jordanthorpe
M49 Firth Park-Parson Cross
M50 Firth Park-Southey Green

They are growing as an alternative in certain parts of town...
