Went out into the garden about 10am,and had to crack the ice off the top of the pond. It was quite thick as well....Glad im not a fish...they don't seem to like it either.
Mind you when i was driving home late last night..the temp thing in my car said it was -2 and that was at about 11pm.
Think it actually got colder through the night.!

It was -4 in Chesterfield last night and was -3 at 8am. Not that cold really... wish we had more days / weeks like this, it's a refreshing change! Also we need it to kill some of the bugs off..
It's at least 1 cat cold; my male cat turned up at some ungodly hour this morning with an urgent desire to sleep curled up in my armpit. :)
This usually indiactes it's chilly.
Here in Walkley lots of hoar frost on cars and grass, soem ice in the odd puddle.

How deep's the pool, John?
I remember reading somewhere that the survival of a lot of life on earth depended totally on the fact that ice floats; were water like many other liquids where the solid phase is heavier than the liquid phase things would get squished whenever there was a cold snap.
