I had my bedroom replastered (skimmed ) recently and today I have noticed that there are several hairline cracks both horizontalally and vertically in various places. I painted the room about 2 weeks after the plastering was done. Could it be the plaster or could it be subsidence?
A small amount of cracking is normal. There's a lot of water that has to disappear! However, if the plaster was stale before mixing it will crack excessively. Start panicing if bits start falling off. (But I'm not an expert)

New plaster will unfortunately crack, if you're lucky only with hairline cracks if they're any bigger you have to invest in polyfiller and get to work. Bad luck by the way if anyone wallpapers onto new plaster firstly when you try to strip it a few years later all your plaster comes with it or as the plaster cracks your wallpaper rips which could cost you a load.
Thanks for both replies - it's put my mind at rest a little:thumbsup:
As was pointed out, small cracks are common - looking at one of our ceilings there are several tiny thin cracks which are caused when the plaster goies through it's curing process.
Two weeks is plenty of time for the plaster to cure for painting - subsidence cracks are more likely to be seen up and down walls. If you've got anything in a wall that's a couple of mm wide that appears to be spreading then check it out.

i'd recommend some of that minor crack covering paint that dulux do. Once it's fully cured, probably about 6 months, go over it with the crack covering paint, then paint it back to the colour you want.
