Lots of people on this board seem to have iPOD's so I thought this may be of use to some of you.

For this Blue Peter you will need:

1.Two 9V PP3 batteries, one 2xAA holder (available from Maplin.com), three PP3 battery clips (also from maplin.com), an empty cigarette or card case and some sticky back plastic.

2. The tricky part: you also need a firewire socket. Specialist electronic stores may stock these, but you can get one by prising apart a Firewire PCI board. Now those three battery clips you have: each has two wires, making a total of six, which just so happens to be the number of pins on the Firewire socket. Solder the six wires onto the six pins.

3. Cut a hole in the side of your cigarette or card box, and fit the firewire socket into it: use sellotape/sticky back plastic and pieces of card or plastic to make sure that it's snug enough.

4. Now, fit the clips to the batteries and battery pack, and place them all inside the box, pushing some cotton wool into the gaps. Use your IPOD's Firewire connection cable to plug it into your newly-made external battery pack, and you should get anything up to ten hours extra juice. When the power goes simply replace the dead batteries.

Voila, now on the train people will give you some really weird looks as your iPOD appears to be plugged into a packet of cigs.

be warned, you might look daft if someone on the train asks for a cigarette and sees all you have is a load of batteries!

Be careful you don't get mistaken for a suicide bomber!

A small clock could also be added for 'ticking' effect.
