View Full Version : Burglars and lookouts - how to stop them?

It's getting quite common in our area for people to be burgled simply for car keys.

It's happened to us twice, but funnily enough, since the arrival of our large 'fearsome breed' dog we seem to have been OK.

The Police know exactly who it is, but they have to catch them virtually red handed for evidence to stick in court. They are committed to getting them so Police call out speeds around here at the moment are fabulous!

Now some of it seems to be organised and some of it seems to be kids loitering and keeping watch, doing a bit of petty drug dealing at the same time.

All the same, I'm expecting another attempt at some time.

So... I've started introducing the dog to these kids, late at night :heyhey: but I wondered if anyone has any other ideas?

Take a piece of wood and bang some nails through it so they come out the other side.
Cover the wood + nails so that it looks like an ordinary cushion. Now, when you park up your car place it on the drivers seat.

Of course I'm not suggesting that you do this - but you did ask for ideas :heyhey: :heyhey:

I don't think that would be breaking any laws.

It's not like you've put the 'cushion' in a public place.

It sounds like a good idea, the more I think about it!

I bet the little f####r would try and sue you though!

Security lights are always good, when they suddenly realise they are lit up for the whole street to see they run like rabbits.

What about putting a strategically placed sharp object under the tyres ? No damage to them, but your car would stay in one place!

Damaging your own car? Not good.

How about investing in a high powered air rifle with laser sight. Stick that out of the window with the beam on them everytime they come near. :loopy:

A Disklok is a good deterrent to car thieves. Its well visible, and won't come off easily, so if they go get away with the keys, you know your Disklok key should be nice and safe on your bunch of house keys (as long as its not next to the car keys for god sake!)

Other things you could do is have a BlakJax system installed, which is an anti-hijack and immobilising device on the car, so you need to enter a 4-digit code to start it up, even if you have the key to the car :heyhey:

Failing that, take the steering wheel off and night and hide it under your bed :) hehe

What do you mean by introduce? Will the dog get friendly with the brats?

You could let the dog sleep in the car!
When we had to park 2 cars on-street, we used to arrange them so as to make it impossible to remove one without the other.
Drive a G reg nova!
Buy a baby monitor to leave in the car. You will hear somebody trying to break into it, or even discussing it first! You could get a two way one, so you can shout hands off my car from a safe distance.

Spread it around a bit that you have cctv cameras and that you are waiting to nail em!

Why not get a talking alarm like Max's from Phoenix Nights?

South Yorkshire Police had that slogan on key rings "take me to bed" a couple of years ago. It was done because it was so common for people to leave their keys in the kitchen.
