View Full Version : Can u trace when your website was accessed and how or from where? fierysatsuma 05-02-2007, 19:52 Just wondered if you could do this - trace the footsteps of your website. I.e. from another site or search engine etc. Thanks Cyclone 05-02-2007, 19:57 Yes, if you have control of the server and it's properly configured you can find out the ip address, date/time, browers and often the site directly proceeding the visit to yours. liam1412 05-02-2007, 20:03 If your site is PHP enabled then you can download a number of Open Source projects that will do this. They will log details of where the users came from and what pages they went on while at your site and then where they go from there. The packages are usually free of charge and are ready to just uplaod to your server CHMOD to 777 and away you go. If you have php enabled on your server then Go Here (http://php.resourceindex.com/Complete_Scripts/Logging_Accesses_and_Statistics/) to see the software available. If you don't have a php enabled server the can't help im afraid. wednesdayowl 06-02-2007, 12:00 google analytics does this and its free. gives a full marketing summary of your site, number of visits, number of return visitors. where in the world they live etc etc mrmist 06-02-2007, 12:20 Bear in mind that these days a lot of the addresses that referrers that appear in website logs are just spoofed these days, or zombie machines that have been hijacked. It won't necessarily be a true list of visitors, no matter what method (php, google, server web logs,) you use. mr chris 06-02-2007, 12:37 If you have access to a mysql database and can configure it youself, slimstat (http://wettone.com/code/slimstat) is a good bet.
