View Full Version : Half Marathon training
NickDuggan 05-02-2007, 17:12 Anyone who wants to join others to train for the half marathon is welcome at Don Valley any Tuesday or Thursday at 6pm to join our training programme for the Sheffield Half Marathon. The race is on the 20th May.Its now 15 weeks to go so getting down in the next month would be perfect. As easy as turning up at 6pm meet at the far end of the indoor straight and ask for Nick or Dave.
NickDuggan 06-02-2007, 23:08 Next training run from Rivelin Valley Fire Station this Sunday 11th February at 11am
Thanks Nick, is it too late to join, myself and my partner are interested, we r members of fitness unlimited, so could come down. Let me know what your training involves to start with
NickDuggan 07-02-2007, 22:26 No problem daryl you and your partner could join any Tuesday or Thursday. On both nights we run at 6pm from Don Valley. The runs are led by experienced runners who have done half marathons. The session will start with some basic stretching and then offer people a range of range ,probably best to start with the beginers group.Sarah came down last week ,said she was nervous of running with a group. She said she could rum 9/10 minute miles. She went out for 50 minutes and found the run comfortable. She is now coming on Thursday and joining the run this Sunday from Rivelin Post office.
At any point people can turn back and one of us will stay with you. Most people who come like the atmosphere, enjoy running with others and start to improve. The warm up and run with a chat afterwards takes about 1hr 15 .minutes.
sarah_glover 08-02-2007, 15:01 Hi,
As Nick said I joing ed the group for the first time on Tuesday. I was a bit apprehensive about running with a group as I had only ever run alone before but I really enjoyed it. Runing with others definitely amde me work harder than I would otherwsie and was great for motivation, no bad thing as I need all the help I can get in my training for the London Marathon!
NickDuggan 10-02-2007, 09:46 Next opportunity to try running with the newly formed Sheffield Running Club, tomorrow Sunday 11th February.training run from Rivelin Valley Fire Station at 11am.You can come and run any distance you like as it is an out and back run. Also don`t forget the Tuesdays and Thursdays at Don Valley.Ready to run at 6pm,Its a great time to join as we have quite a few new runers who are all training for the half marathon.

Hi Nick,
Im Dans mate Rob here. Just checking out the thread, and as Danny said we're bout quite interested about this and are looking to train for the marathon.
Unfortunately, i can't make it on Sunday, but would love to come along on tuesday night.
What sort of distance do you think you'll be covering and what sort of time?
Cheers
Rob
NickDuggan 16-02-2007, 18:58 Tuesday night run is about 50-60 minutes although its possible to do less, one group will be operating at 9-10 minute miles another group at about 8 minute miles look forward to seeing you,be ready to run at 6.The stadium has lockers and showers which you can use for £1.15p,just say you are paying for a shower and changing romms. We met at the end of the indoor straight. You cant miss us about 25 runners.
BarryPseudon 17-02-2007, 12:05 Sounds like this is just what I've been looking for. I did the half marathon in 2005 and then missed last year through illness.
I'm looking to improve my time of roughly 2 hours in 2005.
The 9-10 minute miles might be a good place to start by the sound of it.
If there are still places then I'll come down on Tuesday or maybe even Sunday morning.
Cheers,
Nick P.
NickDuggan 17-02-2007, 15:04 Definately room for more people to join, just come down tomorrow at 11am or Tuesdays or Thursdays.
