I know there are quite a few tribute bands out there - but I just wondered if there was a gap in the market for one....preferably rock.

Might well be putting one together in the near future, so looking for ideas which would pull in the crowds.

There is already a Journey tribute band on the circuit. *Think* they're at the Corporation soon...

What about a tribute band for "The Cult"? good old fashioned no-nonsense balls to the wall British rock!!!

Was thinking more along the lines of melodic rock....

A couple of years back I went to see some bloke called Steve from Barnsley doing a Meatloaf tribute at the City Hall, he was actually quite good iirc. He was backed by a woman who'd previously won Stars in their eyes doing Cher.

Mr brother has started up, and is already in reherasal with a Journey tribute band, they've just got the hard job of looking for a singer at the moment.

If anyone is interested, PM me and I'll pass on your details.

Dear Borough Gal and Classic Rock,

You might already have heard that I do a Kate Bush Drag Tribute -best known for 'Wuthering Heights' ( See www.babydeltic.com and www.babydelticproductions.co.uk video pages ). I know it is not a 'rock band' in the conventional sense (I sing LIVE to backing tracks), but am working on some more Kate Bush classic songs as well as other contemporary hits by Elkie Brooks and Donna Summer, to name others.

Give me a PM if you are interested.

The "Essential Journey" are indeed playing the corporation at the 4th annual UK Journey convention this very Saturday.

Starts at 2:00 pm

The 2 bands start at 6:00 and finish at 9:00 pm.

I have seen the "Essential Journey" and they are quite good.

The bad news is that tickets are £12.
Though I gather its a charity event. (I think)

(I will forward more info about my Journey Tribute band mentioned by my Sis earlier if it gets any further than rehearsals.)

Hiya Tyranna...

It's my brothers band rather than mine, and I think he's very specific in what he wants (it's a "Journey" band), but I've no doubt you'll do well without him!

Good luck!

The kind of band you are prob thinking about (and doing it best) are called ROCKSTAR.. think they are from birmingham.

To be honest although i like tribute bands i think the entrance fee's are a complete rip off. And from my experience you get better quality from the cheesy ones at working mens clubs!! all great musicians but play between bingo to a bunch of old ladies in a dive.

wow, your brother is much better at choosing music then you  i LOVE journey.. and wish i could play like neal schon..but no chance!.. as for singers.. i saw one guy who could do the material proud ..http://www.dixon-agency.com/alex.html but i think he makes enough money with the band he is with.

found a vid :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ_QJgcROD8 poor audio..but gives you an idea of the quality to match

If tribute bands are the bag that people are into, perhaps they ought to check out Glastonbudget (http://www.glastonbudget.co.uk/www/index.pl/bands07)
It's not too far (Leicester way) and not too expensive (£47.50) for the week-end.

Do you know the name of the most reliable tribute band?

* The Stable Doors* highlight for answer (made me laugh anyway...)

I'd love a tribute band that did John Cage's " 4'33" " all night.

Oy! Cheeky!

Occasionally, me and my bro's tastes have collided!! Not Journey, it has to be said, but we spend many an hour pausing a certain music video at certain points!!!!!

So, is there anyone else who can sing as good as (I'm told) the bloke from Journey can? :)

proberbly not, not to dash your brothers hopes but i've met and tried out a lot of singers in sheffield and theres no-one even similar that i've met or heard!

maybe a daft suggestion, but ive actually heard more girls that could do the songs justice them blokes! (steve perry does have a quite femine voice) just an idea..although for a cover band maybe thats no good.

I dunno that you and my bro would be looking at the same people though, he's been in bands for about 25 years (I hope he forgives me for saying that) and wouldn't necessarily turn down someone older with more experience.

Hmmm, dunno if he's thought of that? Would Journey fans accept that sort of thing, do ya think????

Steve Perry (singer from Journey) has a very wide range, most guys cannot sing that high and sustain it. To do Journey cover songs you have to be very, very good and the band playing the instruments equally have to be highly competent.

Whilst in Benidorm, I saw posters or some 'cracking' acts.

One was a band that covered The Beatles and The Eagles called..... The Beagles!!!!

Then there was Jeffrey Lee Lewis.

But my fave, by a mile, was Pete Loaf.

'accept' not sure.. but i know that at 'the gods festival' a band called nexx have a female singer and she sang 'suzanne' by journey and it went down a storm...and sounded spot on!

and yes journey is quite a tough band to do justice to because of the unique vocals....and quite strange that at the moment they themselves cant find anyone to suit!! although their current drummer has an amazing voice suprisingly!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfIlQxbg9FU (spoilt by joint vocals by the camera man haha)

(and i look for 'all' kinds of singers  ...and havent come across many that are near to steve perry's sound)

Hmm,
the only trouble with a UFO tribute band is that UFO are playing loads of small venues and you can see them, and they sound great. Would make more sense to have a tribute band for something you cannot see because the band is too big to play small venues, or because the singer has died.

they didn't sound that good on the last tour so i was told when they played the Astoria in November someone i know walked out of the gig she has never done that in the 28 years i have known her
but you are right about them playing lots of smaller venues:thumbsup:
if you call the Astoria in london small
