View Full Version : Plan my night out please?
I've not been out in Sheffield since having 2 children (4 years ago) and now I've got some friends coming to stay over in 2 weeks (Sat night) who want to see Sheffield. They are 'young at heart' ie. dance clubs perhaps not ideal! (Aged 35-a young 60)
We need to eat, boogie to happy music (we love live music) and preferably all in town so we can tram in.
Any plans gratefully received...I feel under pressure!
Not a great selection of live music in the city centre on a saturday night i don't think, but you could see what's on at West Street Live, or have a look at the Evenings Out section of this forum.
Good bars in town are the Harley Bar (open until late - bout 2), Swim Inn, Cristal, Walkabout and RSVP, but most in town are pretty nice. Food.....Italian in town would have to be BB's (best one in town and in top 5 I've tried in Sheff, and good prices (Devonshire Street)), or BRB's (West Stree) if you're having pizza - fantastic! Again, most of the restaurants along West Street are good too :)
Threads. @ DQ this week features The Wombats... The band to watch for 2007 according to the Sun (which may not sound too good) and Collin Murray from Radio 1....
Honestly, my favourite band of the moment..
As for next week there's no live band but we're featuring a first ever DJ set from LEGENDARY Sheffield producer Alan Smythe...
See other posts on the forum, it's an eclectic indie night and DQ was just voted as Best Bar in Yorkshire...
Peace guys

Classic Rock 05-02-2007, 16:11 If they like a bit of rock, then it's free entry to the Moorfoot Tavern to my rock night, kicking off with yours truly playing old and new rock, followed by a live band...

If you like the 70s and all things disco get down to Hot Pants at the City Hall!!!

Good idea! What sort of age group go and does everyone dress up?

Hi,
Where is Moorfoot Tav and is it 'shake your head' rock (which we love!)

I've heard lots of good things about BB's so that would be worth a try...is it fairly reasonably priced?
Good location too.
Does West Street Live have (as the name suggests) live music EVERY night or just when there are specific gigs?
EdnaKrabappe 05-02-2007, 18:57 What food do you like?
West Street live would be my recommendation to you.

Do you know if they always have live music ie. on Saturdays?
We fancy something different re. food...possibly Thai or Mexican...needs to cater for one fish-eating 'veggie' and not extortionate prices (£15-20 per head)

Can't see anything planned for Saturdays but perhaps phone the venue?
Sam Inter Thai good Thai restaurant.
Mexican in Sheffield is not that great - . Viva Tequila probably the best one at Gleedless!
I'll give them a ring thanks!

London rd maybe a better bet than town food wise - lots of oriental places (thai, chinese, vietnamese) and even some turkish palces up there - and its not that far back into town.
absynthfairy 05-02-2007, 20:20 If the saturday night in question is the 24th feb then my band Highway Child are on at west st live - we're a 9 piece soul band, bit of a blues brothers, commitments tribute. Great for dancing to! we're on at 9pm:thumbsup:
We're also there friday 23rd feb - and every last weekend in the month booked up until May....fab night out.

Fantastic! That solves my dilemma, we'll see you there!
Good idea! What sort of age group go and does everyone dress up?
It's a real mixture of ages that go from the 20's through to the 50's in some cases - have even seen some 70's there I'm sure.
Some people dress up and they sell stuff there like wigs and hats etc. I know it's a Leadmill event so give them a ring (0114 2212828) for more info.
Hope you have a great night whatever you choose to do.
Classic Rock 06-02-2007, 14:08 Hi,
Where is Moorfoot Tav and is it 'shake your head' rock (which we love!)
It's down at the bottom of the Moor.
Plenty of shake your head rock, plus a live band who shake everything else!
Thanks for all the advice, you can always rely on SF which is a nice feeling. I think we are going to do either BB's or Cubana's (bit further out but nice?) and then definitely either the Moorfoot or West St Live as we fancy shaking our heads a lot! We love the idea of the 70's night but feel we may be a little out of our depth!
absynthfairy 07-02-2007, 09:29 Well Highway Child would be glad to see you at West Street Live! You could even "shake your tailfeather" as well as shaking your heads :)
:hihi:
You can be guaranteed we shall be shaking all we can find! Will look forward to listening and dancing to you!
