SYPTE has cashed in on the land value by selling the bottom bit to developers for an office development known by the grand title of e-campus.

That's great thanks joe, but it still doesnt tell me if it will be built where the interchange is! And you'd have thought something as important as this would have more press coverage? That article dates from 2001!!

The e-campus will go where the bus station platforms are being demolished. The original plan was to have more (or all) of the site for the e-campus but it didn't work out like that in the end, so they extended platform A of the bus station and started downsizing other parts of the station.

The e-campus development may now include the Sheaf and Dyson house sites as a means of reclaiming the space that was originally earmarked for the project.

It's a bloody good job Stonehenge, the pyramids and the Acropolis aren't in Sheffield. Because they're over ten years old, they'd have flattened the lot by now.

Oh come on!! A lot of places in Sheffield are derilict because they've been left standing for way too long!! Can you honestly tell me that Sheffield's architecture is modern???

It isn't because they've been left standing too long, it's because they've been neglected. The interchange IS modern. So was the 'Egg box'.

And why does any architecture HAVE to be modern? Especially when it means it'll be getting pulled down again soon because it doesn't serve the purpose, or it is shoddily built.

A lot of Sheffield's old Victorian buildings were standing, and serving a purpose, for 100 years until the Luftwaffe decided to demolish them. Today's buildings? 20 years, tops!

victorian building are the best. No doubt about that.. But the egg box and the majority of what's been built since the 60's needs to be knocked down.. Most of the market, most of the moor for example.. They haven't necesseraly been neglected, they've just been horrid from day 1..

Developers can get away with anything in Sheffield just so long as they claim the project will create a few jobs.

That hotel going up alongside the Winter Gardens is a classic example of this policy, but most of the jobs created will be minimum wage jobs.

True, but the hotel itself, although contoversial, is a good example of investment and confidence in Sheffield and it will give new life to an area of the city centre that has been blighted by an eyesore for the last couple of decades.

When completed, the hotel and the St Paul's place development will ensure that the Peace Gardens area of the city centre is THE focal point for tourism and entertainment in the centre.

Does the St Pauls project contain any entertainment for us though, or is it all office space and luxury apartments ?
