View Full Version : Sheffield interchange, platforms being knocked down Sony 06-10-2004, 15:20 Whats happening with Sheffield interchange?? Andy C 06-10-2004, 15:30 SYPTE has cashed in on the land value by selling the bottom bit to developers for an office development known by the grand title of e-campus. Sony 06-10-2004, 15:40 Any information about this anywhere on the web?? JoeP 06-10-2004, 16:19 There certainly is, Stanley....:) http://www.yorkshire-forward.com/view.asp?id=1213&pw= Joe Sony 06-10-2004, 16:26 Originally posted by JoePritchard There certainly is, Stanley....:) http://www.yorkshire-forward.com/view.asp?id=1213&pw= Joe That's great thanks joe, but it still doesnt tell me if it will be built where the interchange is! And you'd have thought something as important as this would have more press coverage? That article dates from 2001!! nickswfc 06-10-2004, 16:35 http://www.careyjones.co.uk/portfolio/urbanregen/3.html look at this, to me it looks like there knocking the whole bus station down nick2 06-10-2004, 16:36 Originally posted by nickswfc http://www.careyjones.co.uk/portfolio/urbanregen/3.html look at this, to me it looks like there knocking the whole bus station down But they have just built a new bit ? dinp 06-10-2004, 17:34 The e-campus will go where the bus station platforms are being demolished. The original plan was to have more (or all) of the site for the e-campus but it didn't work out like that in the end, so they extended platform A of the bus station and started downsizing other parts of the station. The e-campus development may now include the Sheaf and Dyson house sites as a means of reclaiming the space that was originally earmarked for the project. craigmason 08-10-2004, 16:58 they only built it not long back so i dont think they would knock it down there were rumours though that they were going to build mini interchanges serving the differnt parts of the city Sony 08-10-2004, 17:08 Originally posted by craigmason they only built it not long back so i dont think they would knock it down there were rumours though that they were going to build mini interchanges serving the differnt parts of the city Well I can assure you they've knocked 3 platforms up to now!! ToryCynic 10-10-2004, 12:47 As long as they are leaving the coach stop there lol Alex saxon51 10-10-2004, 12:50 It's a bloody good job Stonehenge, the pyramids and the Acropolis aren't in Sheffield. Because they're over ten years old, they'd have flattened the lot by now. Can you honestly tell me that Sheffield's architecture is modern??? saxon51 10-10-2004, 12:58 It isn't because they've been left standing too long, it's because they've been neglected. The interchange IS modern. So was the 'Egg box'. And why does any architecture HAVE to be modern? Especially when it means it'll be getting pulled down again soon because it doesn't serve the purpose, or it is shoddily built. A lot of Sheffield's old Victorian buildings were standing, and serving a purpose, for 100 years until the Luftwaffe decided to demolish them. Today's buildings? 20 years, tops! Most of the market, most of the moor for example.. They haven't necesseraly been neglected, they've just been horrid from day 1.. That hotel going up alongside the Winter Gardens is a classic example of this policy, but most of the jobs created will be minimum wage jobs. dinp 10-10-2004, 22:52 Originally posted by Greybeard Developers can get away with anything in Sheffield just so long as they claim the project will create a few jobs. True, but the hotel itself, although contoversial, is a good example of investment and confidence in Sheffield and it will give new life to an area of the city centre that has been blighted by an eyesore for the last couple of decades. When completed, the hotel and the St Paul's place development will ensure that the Peace Gardens area of the city centre is THE focal point for tourism and entertainment in the centre. nick2 11-10-2004, 09:21 Originally posted by dinp True, but the hotel itself, although contoversial, is a good example of investment and confidence in Sheffield and it will give new life to an area of the city centre that has been blighted by an eyesore for the last couple of decades. Does the St Pauls project contain any entertainment for us though, or is it all office space and luxury apartments ? skyfitsboy 11-10-2004, 11:43 Originally posted by nick2 Does the St Pauls project contain any entertainment for us though, or is it all office space and luxury apartments ? The ground level and 1st floors of the St Pauls Place complex are going to contain new retail, restaurants and bars of high quality. nick2 11-10-2004, 11:45 Originally posted by skyfitsboy The ground level and 1st floors of the St Pauls Place complex are going to contain new retail, restaurants and bars of high quality.
