I have been Tilly's 'mum' since she was 8 weeks old. I have walked her every day, I feed her, play with her, I have taken her to puppy socialisation classes, and started training her. I work part time, so I'm the person she spends most of her time with.

Why is it then, as soon as my OH walks through the door, she forgets that I even exist? She never leaves his side, and she wraps herself around him on the settee and completely ignores me. In an evening and at weekends, I come a very sorry 4th in her affections (yes I'm even lower than the kids).

So, as the title asks, who does your pet REALLY belong to?

When I was married, we always used to joke that Tico was Daddy's (even though it was me that was passionately in love with him, the sexy blue Burmese boy that he was), Tiffy was mine and Merlin was anybody's!

These days it's more like Tiffy and Baby are definitely mine (nobody else ever gets close to Baby unless I'm holding her to stop her running away), but Merlin and Arthur are usually vying with each other as to who can get onto the laps of visitors, almost before their bums hit the sofa (even people they have never met before).

Peanuts definately mine. Anybody else can stuff, he just runs away from them. I spend countless hours with him everyday, and he trusts me so much its really cute. He watches for me to come back through the gaps in the babygate. :hihi:

..Themselves, of course - how can I really own a living breathing thing? I'm fortunate enough to be their carer, though :)

Raymond Greyhound is a real 'mummy's boy', whilst his sister, Sarah is 'daddy's little princess'. Sol, the lurcher, is the awkward little mut who head-buts the back of my knees when I'm not getting his food ready fast enough. He loves me when it's meal time, but prefers Mr Godzilla when it's time to go 'walkies'.

All of my dogs are really friendly (a bit much so :hihi: ) they all love visitors, but all favour me over anyone else, Lucy is a confident soul and would go with anyone,Meg just loves men and is a terrible flirt, Durham is indisputably mine and i feel that there is a level of understanding and trust with him that i have never had with another animal.
Thomas cat is nervous and will only come to me, Poppy and Rosie are friendly and like everyone....... rabbits couldn't care less so long as they get fed :hihi:

I know the feeling!
I do most things for Takara (granted, my parents sometimes walk her if I can't due to ill health/work etc)

I train them and play with them and spend most of my time with them. I even quit my job because I didn't have as much time as I'd like for them! My dad just shouts at Takara for everything and yet, as soon as he walks in the door she's all over him!

Eddy does love me though... he sits by my side all the time giving dad evils :hihi:

The cats are really my mum's cats but I tend to feed them, train them and play with them and they both live in my bedroom with me most of the time. Don't know what I'll do when I have to leave them!

I think it's because they get used to seeing you all the time so don't get as excited whereas, they don't see your OH as much so it's a bit of a novelty when they do!
(like kids loving seeing their grandparents, I guess)

Lilly is both of our's but if she had to choose I'm sure she would choose my bloke. She follows him round like his shadow and whines incessantly when he leaves the room. She listens to him more than me aswell.

Having said that though apparently she was whining for me the other day when he was in the room and I wasn't, so more often than not she is not happy with just one of us and wants both!

My other two dogs were probably both 'my' girls, so it's come as a bit of a shock to see this little hussy with my OH.

Meg used to make me laugh when my father in law came to look after them when we went on holiday - he swore blind she used to stalk him. He got a bit paranoid about it - I must admit though she was a bit of a head case.:hihi:

I've never had my own cat but did grow up with them, and they seem to know exactly who they own. Polly adopted my dad as soon as she met him even though he was saying we couldn't have any more pets. She won him over in approximately 30 seconds!

We own a beagle

'Beagle rules' is - 'if you're nearest the fridge, I'm yours' :hihi:

Unless I'm scared, then I'm Dad's dog, and if I'm ill or feeling sorry for myself, then I'm Mum's dog :D
