Please help!
My computer does not seem to recognise CDS any more. I put the CD into the drive, the green light comes on and there is a funny noise but it does not seem to spin and the CD is not recognised in Explorer / My computer
I guess this means the drive no longer works but is there anything that can be done?
It was used to burn a couple of CDs before this happened so I think I must have done something to upset it
If you've got another PC available, I'd suggest you whack it in there to check if fault is definitely with the drive or not.

Depending on the type of drive.
Easy CD Creator when uninstalled corrupts a registry key sometimes in which the drive vanishes. This can be fixed by editing the registry.
The IDE/SCSI lead connected to the drive may be faulty. Try using a different lead.
Also check the lead has not come loose from both the drive and the mother board.
Check any jumpers on the back of the drive ensuring they are in the correct places.
If everything appears correct after those steps try a different drive.
Any probs PM me.

J-Blaze covered most of the steps...
You might want to try grabbing a CD cleaner if you can get hold of one and see if that helps...
The good news is that even if you really have buggered up the drive, a new 52 speed CD-re-writer is only about £18 to get a new one...

OOops I thought he was unable to actually see the drive in Windows itself. In that case the laser has prolly gone.
You can get a new one for about 8 quid these days anyway.
