I see that Mr Mandelson managed to come through the trade committee 'grilling' ok.
It is a pity the 3 hour grilling didn't focus more on his personal life and the scandals which ended his front line British political career.
Is he really a suitable candidate for the £147,000 a year post?
A letter of evaluation will now be drafted before a vote to decide if all the 24 commissioners will be approved.
Anyone who doesn't think Mandelson is Blair's voice in Brussels need their head testing.

Mandelson deserves the job - He is a very talented man, so much so TB probably owes his Government to him.
As for him being Blairs voice - whats wrong with that?

If Michael Howard has his way we won't have a voice in Brussels at all.

He is not supposed to be there to act as a sock puppet for Blair
It is about his exceptionally devious nature and his insatiable quest for riches and high living.
Where New Labour are concerned, the EU is a gravy train. Plain and simple.

Fine by me. Although, I don't actually believe that.

I think the ones on the gravy train are the UKIP MEPs and the eurosceptic tory MEPs. They sit there doing nothing just saying we don't want to be here. Talk about fraud in the EU, what better example is there than that?

Oh how about the European Commission and their nepotistic tendrils. THat's a pretty rich vein.
UKIP Meps have nothing on Cresson et al.
BUt if european institutions are to be sorted out, leaving the EU will make that very difficult.

That man has a funny look about him, in some of those TV shots all you'd have to do is paint a little toothbrush moustache on him and he'd be the spitting image of a certain nasty little Austrian painter.
Wonder how long he'll manage to steer clear of scandal in Brussels.

I thought that was exactly his job? He is the government representative not an elected MEP there for the people.
Apologies if i have the wrong end of the stick with this.
