Hi everybody!
This all sounds veyr friendly! I am moving to Sheffield soon, and feel a bit lost. Could anyone explain the postcodes to me? I mena, I know that S1 is at the centre, but that's about all I know. I am looking for accomodation, and would like to have an idea of where to look.
Thanks a million

Hi there,

S6 and S10 usually have a fair amount of rental stuff - these are also the 'studenty' areas. I live in S6, which is the Walkley / Hillsborough /Crookes area to the West / Northwest side of the city centre.

Nether Edge, Fulwood, Ecclesall, Dore, Totley and Beauchief are quite popular and nice. All on the West Side of the city.

First job, then, get an A-Z:)

Then get on the lits of Estate Agents - house prices are going up still in Sheffield, and rentals used to be hard to come by - not sure what they're like now.

Anyway, welcome aboard!

Joe

shaz, try this.

Even Blundells have their uses sometimes.

The Blundell website was a great idea. They have a map of Sheffield with postcode delineations. No other detail appear, but at least it helps my non-existent sense of orientation!

There are exceptions to every area though. I live in s2 and although this includes areas with a bad reputation, where i live (In the new houses on Norfolk park), it is pretty quiet and the people are friendly too. There are also very good transport links with buses and supertram less than 500 meters away.

So, what brings you to sheffield? Coz we should give you different advice if the answer is 'university' as to if it's 'my new dental practice/sheep shearing business/opening a new Porche dealership.'

I will be working full-time. I am not very particular abotu the area. I will have my own car - though I still don't want to spend half my time driving it to get to places! I would like somewhere that is not too noisy, while not too far away from shops, etc
thanks to everyone for your support

Check out the Supertram route and live nearby.

It is a fantastic service.

I second that Yorkie. A £450million taxi service, love it!:)

Now I know this is sad - but I have an Access database with all the postcodes and there areas -PM if you want it, and if i can get the scanner to work, I have a map of Sheff that my Uncle drew.

I don't know how well paid your job is Shaz, but remember to get a quote on your car insurance BEFORE you start budgeting for anything else. We are the car crime capital of britain, and the insurance reflects this! It could come as a nasty shock if you've overlooked it.

If it's a nice car, aim to get it off the road AND out of sight.

If it's an astra, you may as well leave it unlocked. They're well practiced at those.

Same goes if it's a Fiesta or a Focus as well. Either that or replace the radio, with one that you can remove now.

Still probably won't stop them but....
