We have adopted an adorable kitten ( nearly 6 months old).

How can I train him not to jump on the dining table when we are eating? Tried the water pistol technique but he appears to love water and happily sits in the kitchen sink.

He does have a food issue as at his original home he hardly ever got fed so he doesn't understand that his food bowls are his and will not be removed when there's food in them. I presume he'll grow to learn this? Poor mite.

Also he is beginning to nip and I'd like to try and stop this. But how?

keep putting him down would be my first thing but I guess you have tried that. Secondly what I did with my dog was to put their food out just as we were having ours that worked with her.

Medusa, or sooz are cat experts i think, they will know far more than me.

Yes I agree blowing on him will certainly work. Also worth hissing when he's on the table he'll soon understand that it is not the thing to do. It's a matter of being patient and persisiting with your discipline - 6 months is still very young for a cat. Hiss, blow and pick the kitten up and put him out of the room with a firm 'no' and keep on doing it - he'll get the message!

Keep on taking him to his food when he's looking at yours... he'll also get the message that the food is his.

I wish our two would sit in the kitchen sink... one of them at the very least needs a bath!
