View Full Version : Longest running club night?
SonicBoomBoy 02-02-2007, 12:55 My fave indie night, Offbeat, is having it's 10th birthday celebrations tomorrow, which got me curious; is this Sheffield's longest continuously running club night, or at least the continuously running in the same venue?
There must be the odd 'nightlife historian' on here...

I think Blessed and Bubblegum at Gatecrasher has been running roughly around 10 years +

I think Blessed and Bubblegum at Gatecrasher has been running roughly around 10 years +
Rise at the Leadmill around 12 +
Stardust at Hallam uni, I think 10, not sure
Also Love2be 12 + but not the force it used to be
uprising is definately over 10 years old.......
fnkysknky 02-02-2007, 15:38 Rise isn't really continuos though - it's had it's fair share of breaks.
uprising is definately over 10 years old.......
Uprising have just had their 12th Birthday - and thats pretty much continuous - not just the odd bank holiday.
hardcore.. you know the score..
whistle girls.. whistle boys.. hardcore posse make some noise...
etc etc etc
:)
bladesufc1 02-02-2007, 16:33 it would have to be GATECRASHER & UPRISING
gatecrahser started in sheffield at the LEADMILL doing bank holidays.. the 1st time sheffield clubbers had seen decent lazers lol. i remember being at the front of the stage amazed with them haha...
easily 12+ years for both nights
Agent Gypo 02-02-2007, 16:48 Gatecrasher was at The Arches before it was at Leadmill I think. Skool Disco has been running for years too. As has Headcharge.
carcrash 02-02-2007, 17:26 Whats the one that Alan Deadman did, not headcharge, the world music/reggee one.

nope!! it started on bank holidays at the leadmill.!!! i was at the 1st 1. after a year it became very very popular. then to arches, which i attended all of them, then adelphi, again i attended all of them, then when they build the republic, only attended that for about 2 years solid... still go at least 3 times a year, as they say... it'll always be with you.. and up2 now it has hehe

Good call - the Juju club has been going for something like 16 years - so probably wins!

Headcharge started in 98 I think - but hasnt really been regular since the Arches shut down three years ago.

Cheers, I've spent the last couple of hours racking my brain trying to remember what it was called. Is it still going?

Its not on every month at momment - but still does gigs/events every now & again.
Wodoish!!! 03-02-2007, 12:17 Uprising, although has been at various venues is celebrating it's 12th Birthday at Plug on 9th February. Surely this must be the longest running.
EdnaKrabappe 03-02-2007, 13:30 I'm guessing it's Hot pants. Still gets people going!

I've been living in Sheffield since Sept 1994, and from what I recall, the monthly CLIMAX at the University of Sheffield Students' Union, billed as 'YORKSHIRE'S BIGGEST LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER NIGHT' has been going strong ever since then, ...and then some...:D
goldenfleece 10-02-2007, 15:29 Corporations DROP club night has been running for at least 13 years...it was at the City hall circa 94 and possibly earlier than that.......
It's got to be hotpants it's 16 / 17 years old if i remember correctly.
So it seems to be down to a Juju v Hotpants sound clash in the veteran stakes.. there's a thought!
:)
tomstarr 13-02-2007, 12:28 Tuesday Club / Dubcentral / Headcharge have all been around as long as I can remember

Gatecrasher actually started in Birmingham not Sheffield, they did a few nights in Brum before coming to Sheffield. A little known fact but true.

yeah i no it did. it started at the leadmill when it started in sheffield, as other posters wasn't aware it was at the leadmill before the archers, i believe scott bond was 1 of the people to start it off
Tuesday Club / Dubcentral / Headcharge have all been around as long as I can remember
They are all under 10 years old - I think Headcharge & Tuesday club started around 98, DubCentral a few years later.

Yeah sorry mate, should have read the rest! Yeah Scot Bond was one of the co-founders of Gatecrasher, legend!!

Tuesday Club had its 7th birthday last year didn't it?
Thursday night at Gatecrasher started in 1996 - called Disco 2000, then became D>sko after year 2000 but was the same night. Bubblegum and Blessed were later - around 1998.
Think Hotpants started around 1992/93.
rocketman 15-02-2007, 13:08 I first came to Sheffield as a bright eyed student in 1992. Drop was already an established feature at City Hall as was Hot Pants. I can't think of anything else that is still going. I'm not sure what's on at the leadmill these days. But back then it was the eighties night on a Wednesday and then 70's on a thursday. I seem to remember Rise starting on a Friday in my 3rd year, so that would be 94/95 ish.

Rise at the Leadmill around 12 +

the republic (gatecrasher) opened in dec 95 and the monday night was called the bomb for at least 2 years, blessed and bubblegum have probably been running since about 98 or 99.
rise and love2be have not been continuously running by any means.
stardust - dunno.
gatecrasher aka crasher has been running since at least 95 which would make it 11
bladesufc1 15-02-2007, 17:08 where u get your name from? you actually part of scuba?
as of a couple of years ago, the thursday at leadmill 'the beat club' was the longest running night, god knows for how long but it was around when i was a lad and it was still there as my last hair went grey!!!!!!!
