View Full Version : "Life On Mars" TV series returns Tues 13 Feb 07 Yaaaay
Plain Talker 02-02-2007, 09:52 I can't wait for this absolutely excellent series' return on Tuesday 13th Feb.
I really enjoyed series 1, and am eagerly anticipating that series 2 will be just as good.
Excellent acting from John Simm, and Philp Glenister, lots of action, and fantastic storyline.
Ace!
yaaay that should be great!!
Did you see an advert for it the other week where they used plastercine (sp) models?? I thought it was funny...maybe thats just me:suspect:
Minesadouble 02-02-2007, 10:16 Excellent ........
BasilRathbon 02-02-2007, 10:18 I preferred it when it was first shown, back in the 1970s - it looks very dated now......
Great series. Then there's the spin off being discussed with Glennister's character...Ashes to Ashes?

unfortunately i missed that advert. Doublewood told me he'd seen a "Trumpton/ Camberwick Green" style mickey-take advert for it, but try as I might, I havent managed to catch that one, yet. I'd love to see it.
hmm, *thinks*... Philip Glenister, as the Gene Genie, in Plasticine... could be interesting... (lol "Life On Wallace And Gromit"! lol)

Beakerzoid 02-02-2007, 11:30 Can't wait for season 2. Adored the first season's mix of 'Sweeny-esque' cop show with a dash of fantasy. Shame that second season will be the last one, but at the same time it is good that it will be a complete story which doesn't drag out.
As for proposed spin-offs...nothing is confirmed yet, except for the US version, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Has anyone picked up the 'Police training guides' that are scattered around various places in town to promote the show? If not, pop into the Showroom foyer, they have loads there.

I managed to see "A" Camberwick Green mickey-take advert, tonight, it had me wetting myself with laughter. is there only the one, or are there others?
"it's Sam Tyler..
ohh, he's sad...
Who's made you sad, Sam? it's the gene genie?
is he beating up a nonce? "
:hihi: :hihi: :hihi:

I couldnt remember what "Life On Mars" was at first. Yes, now i remember. It was excellent. I will watch it again.
MysTique 04-02-2007, 10:04 Oh good - I've been waiting for this to come back on.
I just hope that I'm not disappointed and that the 2nd series is as good as the 1st. Is this definitely the last one?

Yep. The cast and crew decided that dragging it out would spoil the show, and (as with Lost) a lot of the viewers would get bored and leave.
Grim Reaper 13-02-2007, 21:27 Its on and its great. :hihi: :hihi:
Plain Talker 13-02-2007, 22:36 watched it,

I was a naughty boy and watched next weeks episode on BBC4, oh well, I guess I'll just be one step ahead from the people who ain't got digital, lol.

yeah that puzzled me too,,, did he call him again then in the second episode?
Beakerzoid 14-02-2007, 11:56 What a great start to season 2. The future interfering in the past idea looks like it could be interesting - and I can't wait to find out why he's "really there!"

Rather this than 95% of the other programs they seem to put on.
barnie41 14-02-2007, 15:45 "Wagon wheel and strawberry milk - never fails" - quality writing.
I saw this for the first time last night and thought it was great! I was tempted by an article in SFX magazine, and yes, it's good!
Thought that it being a cop show would put me off, but then of course it's the 70s and it brought back memories of The Sweeney and the Professionals (used to be allowed to watch those even though I was tiny). First series is worth trying to catch them, eh? ;)
Where did they get the cars from? I was very impressed by those old motors.
I love this programme, it reminds me a little of Quantum Leap...I used to like that as well. I know they're repeating that somewhere on one of the other channels just now but....
Shame its the last one, but that's how it goes isn't it.:)
yeah that puzzled me too,,, did he call him again then in the second episode?
No, Sam phoned the number he got and was told that he should not phone the voice, the voice would call Sam, it was the rules.

I was waiting for him to pick up the Wagon Wheel, study it and then say "so they WERE bigger in the past" :D

ah, yes but surely, that would be only if he'd followed the thread about it on SF?
This programme is quality, that is all.

How did you watch it last year? I didn't realise the second series had already been shown elsewhere.
Anyway the quality is being kept up judging by the first episode ... thought it was amusing the way during the fight on the roof, Gene Hunt had a fag in his mouth the whole time ... :D
alchresearch 15-02-2007, 10:12 I thought filming only finished a couple of months ago for the second series. Do you work in TV or something?
Daily Mail article (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/newscomment.html?in_article_id=436309&in_page_id=1787)
It sings the praises of an era when real men with hairy sideburns could still drive their souped-up Ford Cortinas at speed, sink five pints and a pack of Embassy down the boozer at lunchtime without worrying about safe drink-driving limits or passive smoking, and stagger back to deliver a few fruity one-liners to the birds in the office with no fear of being had up for sexual harassment........
Ten years into probably the most micro-managerial, nanny-ishly-interfering, puritanical political regimes Britain has experienced since the days of Cromwell's Commonwealth, we are constantly being invited by our New Labour rulers to admire how much better, fairer and happier life has become thanks to their endless social legislation. But has it really?
That's a brilliant write-up, and oh so true.
Especially this bit for me;
What we want is the sort of old-fashioned, no-nonsense rozzer who solves the crime quickly, gets another bad guy — any bad guy, it doesn't much matter which — off the streets, and enables us to sleep that little bit more safely in our beds at night. What we want, in fact, is someone like DCI Gene Hunt.
The 1970s 'copper' with a large piece of 1950s 'bobby' thrown in.
