Agreed, but being a South African myself, I know there is a strong influence of the Church and religion, particularly in black culture. They could do more to influence behaviour and beliefs about AIDS.

I managed about a quarter of it (and am now feeling VERY sane and normal!) However I would like to point out you can only speak your mind if you have one - minds are not much in evidence there!

The godhatesfags people are only too real. They organise "protests" at the funerals of gay men who have died from AIDs related diseases. Yes - when the family is grieving the wave placards with "Gays burn in hell".

In this country, the "Christian Voice" group - the people who wanted Jerry Springer the musical banned, also "out" gay friendly policies in public sector bodies like the police.

I would suggest joining the National Secular Society!

It would be even funnier if there were not so many people who think this way - I like the stats from a 2003 US survey - that 62% of the adult population "distrust" the theory of evolution.

The same survey also revealed that 16% of US adults thought that the sun went round the earth :(

The "established church" of Jesus' day objected to him because he associated with "publicans and sinners" (KJV wording); he didn't approve of their sinful ways, but he spoke to them, ate with them, and showed them God's love. I can't see a quotation where Jesus rejoiced at the death of a sinner. So these "Christians" are NOT following their Master.

We have a tendency to think that the Yanks think as we do.
This is probably the case in the big cities and towns, but obviously not in the hinterland.

The people in the big cities are cosmopolitan in their thinking, the people in the desert hamlets are still living a backward life?
Coiuld this be the same with our own home grown murderers, they are living in the closed comunities in Bradford, Leeds and Dewsbury.

#1 is as depressing as it gets. If you click on the link there's a thread on which she says that the kid in question killed himself and asks whether she was wrong not to accept her son. There are then loads of posts all of which express support for the woman's stance on her son's sexuality before an argument breaks out as one poster accuses another of not being intolerant enough.
