Feeding the Squirrels at the Botanical Gardens? I've not been myself yet but the Weston Park museum is meant to pretty good now that it's been refurbished.

Eight? I'm guessing year 3 or 4 at school. She's probably doing the Tudors. Bishop's house is a nice (and free) place to visit on a weekend and you could go in the park afterwards if the weather is pleasant. As it's half term they often have some sort of story telling event on.

Followed by a trip to The Bohemian at Meersbrook for some Bohemian Bar ;-)

Go around Chatsworth House.
I'm finding it hard coming up with ideas,I'll have a think!

thanks for these replies - not thought about bishops house that's possibility and I've not been there for years.
forgot to mention we are on public transport .

One thought I had was to go to the museum followed by a walk down to the botanical gardens (if the weathers not too bad!)

anymore ideas though welcomed

How`s about the Weston park museum! It`s close to town 0n 52 bus route or close enough to tram if don`t mind walking. Just a thought plenty to for young, and old alike. It`s also free entry to the museum it`s self. Take a picnic if it`s fine food place a little on the dear side I found.

If its bad weather could you not have a girly afternoon. Face masks, curl/straighten her hair, paint her nails, put her a bit of make up on. Make her feel all grown up.

I know they grow up so fast, but they do like that sort of thing.

I know you said you could do the cinema anytime, but Charlottes Web will be out at half term, a must for every little girl. (and big girls!)

Bus to Hunters Bar, do part of the Round Walk through Endcliffe Park and Whiteley Woods, finish up at Forge Dam, where there's a nice cafe and a pond with ducks. Then walk up to Fulwood shops and get the 60 back towards town.....

The rare breeds place at Graves Park. Petting cute fury animals always does it for me, though admittedly I'm not eight. The cafe is up and running there again now. Or what about one of those paint your own pot places? Sorry, just thinking of what I want to do again. Don't even know if there's anywhere in Sheff that does that. Or there's the butterfly house at Aston, they have reptiles, turtles, a skunk and some totally cool marmasets. I wanna be eight!

Botanical Gardens are good. If it's cold there are the glass houses there. The cafe is nice. There is a special trail there with a puzzle to solve. And there are squirrels to feed too.

It would probably be too babyish for an 8 year old

My 8yr old loves feeding the squirrels in the botanical gardens, they are quite tame too.

If it is a nice day we will have a walk around he gardens, followed by a walk to Endcliffe park. you can follow the clues as you go round the gardens, which is fun. I remember my daughter being in awe at the bear pit, the first time she saw it.

Aww thanks everyone - great ideas and wwcrazy you are right every little girl should see Charlottes Web i think that will be the back up plan if weathers grotty.
Think we'll do the Botanical gardens followed by hot chocolate in that lovely cafe there. This would also suit her mum as we can get in a bit of shopping in town too!!

Weston Park is excellent!
I'v been 3 times already, the kdis love it, loads for kids to get involved with.

If you go to the Botanical Gardens why not try the Nature Trail, you get clues to follow which lead you to various points i the gardens. Get a sheet from the Gift Shop.
And apparently the weather is going to continue as it has been today so you should be in luck!!!

We don't mind travelling within reason.

I take it you haven't yet had the experience of the renovated museum?

It's garbage. An 8 year old would be bored within half an hour:(
