View Full Version : EUROPE: Do Fans Support Rival Clubs.
LFCMadPaul 01-02-2007, 16:09 where i drink and watch football there is always a mixed feeling about this and i was just wondering what everyones feelings were on this. Now i ALWAYS want Man u and everton to lose for obvious reasons, as they do us, but when in europe i ALWAYS want them to win as they are representing our country. Some of my mates agree with me but some just cant bring themselves to support a team they hate so much the rest of the time .... i just wondered what your views on this were ????
Guderian 01-02-2007, 16:36 I always want Liverpool to lose, regardless.
In Europe I want Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool to lose.
Spurs, Villa, Blackburn etc (UEFA cup type teams) I want to win.
happyhippy 01-02-2007, 17:31 Depends on whether I like the side, or am indifferent or cannot abide them.
If I cannot abide them, nothing but ritual humilation will do; if I'm indifferent or quite like them, I'm not that bothered what happens.
King Rat 01-02-2007, 21:00 I'd say most of us want a English team to win when their in Europe but when you consider a lot of the clubs have a high proportion of foreign players it doesn't really matter to some, as it isn't like the World Cup which is totally representative of you're country.
Anyone who professes to be English and would rather see a foreign team win than an English one ... something's wrong there. :loopy:
Guderian 01-02-2007, 22:37 Anyone who claims to dislike or even hate a rival team (IE City fans hating Utd, Sheff U hating Weds)) and would rather they win than Locomotiv Moscow, now thats weird.
I hate Liverpool. I am totally indifferent to Valencia. If the two played, I would want Valencia to win.
Its not an uncommon way of thinking. Why should I want Liverpool to win?
Their players are from around the world, just as Valencias are.

Agreed. Completely.

reason your debates regarding lfc/man u are so off the mark. right or wrong you slag off lfc so a debate with u is pointless
LFCMadPaul 02-02-2007, 07:35 Agreed. Completely.

couldnt agree more .. although reading some of the comments on here im beggining to change my views on how i want man u games to end up ...... in smoke i reckon ....... manc c......s
AtticusFinch 02-02-2007, 12:25 Other than my own team (Liverpool), I separate teams into those I hate, those I dislike, those I'm indifferent to and those I have a soft spot for. I hate the mancs and Everton, I dislike Chelsea and I'm indifferent to most other teams. I have a soft spot for the Blades as I've been to see them play in the past and I now live only a few streets away from Bramall Lane. Obviously I'd always want them to lose against Liverpool or in a game that affected Liverpool though.
In Europe therefore, I'll support teams that I'm indifferent to. For example, good luck to Arsenal in the remainder of this season's Champions League. Apart from that though, I don't believe that clubs are in Europe to represent the nation - that's what the national team is for! The Champions League is all about individual club glory.
:)

yeah good point ....... suppose your right and if im completely honest .. i dont think i could bring myself to cheer the mancs if they lifted our trophy (european cup)
LFCMadPaul 02-02-2007, 12:58 hey daley its nice to have a fellow lfc supporter on here ..... most on here are mancs and its a nightmare ... some r ok but some r NOT
no im the same- unless its someone i really hate (leeds, piggies, arsenal) i ALWAYS want the british side to win.
LFCMadPaul 02-02-2007, 15:19 no im the same- unless its someone i really hate (leeds, piggies, arsenal) i ALWAYS want the british side to win.
yeah same here (having had my mind changed by some manc fans) i supported british teams but like i said earlier ..... seeing man u lift our trophy .. nah wouldnt like it .(wouldnt happen either so im fine )
Guderian 02-02-2007, 15:33 I have a pal who is a Pool fan. He said he was distraught when we beat Bayern Munich in 99 to lift the trophy.
Likewise, I nearly had a heart attack when Pool fluked that win over AC Milan in Istanbul.

fluked .... hows that ....... they hammered us first half .... we hammered them second ....... we won pens ... wheres the fluke.
i remember man u in there final too ........... 1 - 0 down last min ...... won 2 - 1 ........ was that a fluke also ???????????
just accept we won it again .. like AF said .. u only become a great side when u have won the EC twice which u have not so even your manager admits your not that great
Agent Gypo 02-02-2007, 15:39 I always want Sheffield Wednesday to lose, even though a small part of me wishes they were in the same league just for the derby games. That isn't going to happen unless The Blades are relegated though.
I want Leeds to lose every game they ever play.
Doncaster, Barnsley, Chesterfield and Rotherham are like little pets, you smile and go 'awww' now and again without thinking too much about them.
I always, always, always, ALWAYS want Arsenal to lose.
I'm glad Chelsea have turned into a force, as it at least stops Man Utd, Arsenal and Liverpool winning everything. Still, it would be nice if the top 6 at the end of the season threw up some surprises.
Agent Gypo 02-02-2007, 15:44 But generally, in Europe, I like British teams to win. Unless they are called Arsenal.

or man u :hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
Agent Gypo 02-02-2007, 16:11 Generally not bothered about Man Utd.
Out of the big four, it's only Arsenal I dislike. I think that has more to do with Wenger than anything, and that they always seem to knock the Blades out of cups.
I'd rather Liverpool and Chelsea beat Man Utd, but I wouldn't say I hate them.
It does amuse me when some of their fans moan about Chelsea's riches though, when Man Utd were the richest club in the world for years and chucked money around like it was going out of fashion.

Preacher Man 02-02-2007, 23:48 gud, you tickle me too much with your jr hartley :hihi:
personally i dont hate liverpool. i admit i wanted them to lose in europe but that was only due to the stick i knew i would get! when they pulled it back to 3-2 i was supporting them! i wish gerrard was a blue!
in europe i always want arsenal to do well. i just love the way they play! i will watch every everton game but thw rare occasion i cant i will watch arsenal play!
I do hate man u with a passion. i want them to lose every game they play! i think i have just hated a lot of their players for the last 10 years! Also for the way they conduct their transfer business. doesnt mean i cant respect some of the players in the team though.

i thought after they agreed to replay a match over a controversial goal when they could easily not have that sheffield united fans would like them?

yeah true .. they do have some great players but alot are near the end of there career ... ronaldo will be gone after this season and their manager also is getting abit long in the tooth ... so i dont think the future is that bright at manu .........
your right about arsenal ...... very good to watch ....
chelsea .... not bothered if they win or lose to be honest .... although had a little smile when lost in europe last season ..... wiped a few smug grins of there smug faces.
Man u ....... hate there pompus players .... there 60 odd thousand quite , tuna eating fans...... everything about them really
