Hi Strix

hopefully Litha (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/member.php?s=&action=getinfo&userid=5028) may turn up onsite she is one half of the partnership that owns and runs Body Runes.

Her husband does the tattoo side of things and Litha runs the pagan community center there. Not sure what stock she has in at the moment as it has been a while since I managed to get over to see her...but when I went she had smellies and candles a couple ofcauldrons and that sort of thing, my memory is rubbish!

She may be online later as she has been posting details about the hit and run that happened near her shop.

Do you mean the magic variety? If so, there is a shop almost next door to the Broomhill Tavern, Broomhill, that sells them. They don't agree with me, though:(

Yeah, I've only ever tried them once, and I was a bit ill. I thought I might try them again, as a tea perhaps.

Draggletail
05-10-2004, 16:16
They didn't make me ill, but after a fit of the giggles I became quite anxious, then even more anxious. I could see nothing pleasant was going to come out of it so I had a large dose of soluble vitamin C to kick it out of my system. Won't try 'em again. Never mind:|
The shop I mentioned sells 'philosophers stone/truffle' 'shrooms plus a couple of other varieties

Litha

All those shiny bits might be rather attracted to the 'scottish widows' cloak I want to wear instead of a veil. I love New Rocks, but I noticed that wearing flat clumpy footwear was changing the shape of my legs. I'm a bit of a spikey heel sort really. Pointy toes suit size 3 feet better too!

What's handfasting?

Handfasting- Pagan wedding,

Litha

These legs used to be able to stop traffic. Quite an achievement for somebody of 5ft. Those days are over. I feel old.
These feet are only a size 21/2, so half insoles and socks were essential to get any boots to fit. I have a warped sense of humour - it used to tickle me turning up to Roxy's rock night in a drop-dead outfit and when a bloke ran his eyes all over the ensemble, I would try to picture his face if he could see the bright red socks with cartoon goggle-eyed green spotty snakes lurking in the 'don't f**k with me!' boots. Removing the boots was something of a party trick!! (reserved for when a gang of us had staggered home).

Handfasting - do tell more.

Moon Maiden

Handfasting - is currently a wedding that cannot take place as a legal wedding in England and Wales (scotland has just had it's first)
Handfastings can take place anywhere the couple see fit to, it is usually outside. Organisations like Life Rites can organise people to lead the handfasting if you are nto part of a coven or do not have access to a High Priest or Priestess.
A handfasting in some respects is very much like a civil wedding in that the couple design it to suit what they want. They write their lines to each other and their promises..the difference being that there may be a religious element to it if the couple honour pagan diety (Thor, Demeter, Diana, Herne et al)

The religion of Wicca has a wedding that means you have a choice for your marriage..you can marry for a year and a day, for the rest of your life or eternity binding your souls together. I think jumping the broomstick is involved there after the wedding aswell.

Beccause the law currently doesn't recognise paganism as a valid faith (despite it being the 8th largest religion in England and wales source national statistics 2001 census) it means many pagans who choose to be soley married through their faith are left out of legalities for married people. Many pagans choose to have a registry office wedding for the paperwork and then do the important bit later.

The ritual is really down to the couple and what tradition they follows as to how it will progress...it is customary to finish with the great rite, though many couples choose to wait until their guests have gone home before they partake :heyhey:

According to this site anyway

http://www.shazzie.com/raw/journal/2000/june.shtml go quite a bit far down the page.

"I'm like those penguins off the adverts years ago "chop chop busy busy work work bang bang"!"

or then I've found this

"Never walked out of the cinema, but got slung out of the preview of Batman 2 at Beckenham ABC, for imitating the penguins on the old BT ad in the aisles (Chop, chop, busy, busy, work, work, bang, bang...) as they were burying Danny DeVito at the end."

from http://forums.cpfc.org/showthread/t-15965.html again near the end of the page.

Can't remember these penguins tho?

*sorry for hijacking the thread*

well yeah tiz mostley like Moon said, im already leagally married n have been for years we are having our Handfasting to pledge our love to the universe, mother earth, the elements n wot not , not just to society. there really beautiful you write your own vows so its deeply personall. you say the reasons you love the other person and want to spend eternity or what ever siuts , with them. its called Handfasting cos you both have your hands bound to gether with cord or ribbons, and yes there is the part where ya jump the broom :D . ive already got my broom and will be decorating it with ribbons , bells etc..
heehee, and i will be saving the great rite till afterwards when we are all alone. we will be having a big feast afterwards of loadsa meat , pies, BEER, n stuff.. but deff no sausage n pineapple on stix :hihi:

Thanks for the handfasting info, Moon and Litha. Sounds like my sorta thing, but can't see my intended going for it.
Think he's struggling enough with the idea of my mum and me knowing when things will happen, or are happening somewhere else. Creeps me out sometimes too. :help: I think the broomstick would be the final straw. Hang on, where did I meet this guy?

Oh, and no pineapple? I know why we were made for each other - we both like the same flavour pizza! ham, pineapple and mushroom. (There is more to it than that, and we have been together for 12 years)

Am I allowed a feather duster type of thing? Real feathers? In lilac? Actually, a shepherd's crook thing would go well with my outfit.
