A school in Cumbria is making every pupil who wants to play conkers wear safety goggles.
The headmaster of the school was worried the game might be banned by the council because of fears of eye injuries.

If it had been April 1st I would not have believed this
:loopy:
....and if you are REALLY bored, you can vote on the BBC Newsround website 'is it a good Idea or a bonkers Idea':D

This is what Michael Howard was on about when he was talking about a compensation culture gone mad. How do we stop people resorting to the law and make them take back responsibility for their own, and their children's actions? I don't think it's something for which you can legislate, even though MH is saying that's what his party will do. :loopy:

I applaud the headmaster for taking this step and highlighting how ridiculous some parents can be, laying blame at schools' and local authorities' doors for any and everything that goes wrong.

Was nice to see two lads playing conkers at our school today, without goggles which is good because guess who would have to supply. Not fighting or making a mess, just playing conkers quite happily. Bet they were new year 7's.

My memories of playing conkers is of someone trying to smash my knuckles in - its not the innocent game it seems.

Chris.
