View Full Version : Horoscopes - What star sign are you?

I'm a Leo, what are you? However, I have absolutely no time for weekly predictions that appear in newspapers, magazines or on the radio. I detest the likes of Russell Grant (is he still going?) who earn a living off the backs of the gullible. What do you think?

Do you have any time for star signs or do you agree that they are a complete waste of time?

The whole notion that the stars can in some way affect your personality and what your day will be like is a load of superstitious claptrap IMO that should be filed neatly away in a big filing cabinet which is then buried under several thousand feet of concrete lined with lead and a years supply of waste from Sellafield.

Not that I'm opinionated or anything. ;)

I am capricorn and I don't read my horrorscope either.

I have had my natal chart done which was quite interesting and very accurate. That is the problem with the newspaper ones - they are doing the futures of how many people??? So generalised.

Whereas one-to-one predictions are so much more accurate and not a complete load of rubbish, wasting peoples time and money?

Cancer. I don't really believe in people of certain starsigns having certain traits. Well, didn't until I met my current partner. He's a Taurean, soooo stubborn. Refuses to be enthusiastic about anything. He is an absolute text-book example.

Funny how everyone thinks it's a load of rubbish, but no-one misses a beat when asked, they always know their star sign. It's like some giant brain-washing thing, so much a part of our society. Weird.

Pisces, btw. Yes, dreamer, yes imaginative and creative - no not a doormat, no not terribly quiet, and somewhat lacking in introspection.
I was fascinated when I was a teenager, but I think teenagers do spend a lot of time trying to categorise themselves in one way or another.
Grew out of it.

As soon as I'd done my post I thought exactly the same thing! I did used to read them from time to time just to see if I could find anything credible in them. I didn't find anything... They are so vague that you can read another star sign's prediction and still see bits which might apply to you.

I'm a Saggitarius. I can remember reading in the papers a few years ago how the astrologers got the dates wrong and they should be different, so technically we are all the starsign before the one that we are.......making me a Scorpio....but reading descriptions of what Sagittarians are and what Scorpios are, I think I'm more of a Sagittarian. Then again, who really gives a toss?

I'm a Virgo born in the Year of the Tiger - does that vindi'cat'e me?

By the way, I would think that if you're born in the Western culture then you have more chance of being either a Virgo or a Libra than any other sign.

Belle
02-09-2003, 14:48
And speaking as yet another Virgo - as if the atavar didnt already give it away, I think you are probably right.

I dont know that I believe in the "daily predictions" part of astrology but I am quite happy to partially stereotype people according to their birth date.

I feel like a typical Virgo to me

But then again I might be the way that I am because I was the youngest in my class throughout school. But then so would most other early virgoans be, so does that prove it or disprove it?

.....shut up Louise you are talking drivel x

Just a thought but does it make a difference if you were born before or after you were supposed to be?

I was born 6 weeks late, due to be born in October but ended up in December!!

If I had been born in October would I have ended up being a different personality if the 'stars' are to be believed?

And similarily, my son was 5 weeks early, due in April but born in March.

Do you really believe that when we are born defines our personalities because I don't ... sorry!!

Libra - and most of the time i am undecisive as i am supposed to be. Try to keep the peace and balance, i believe it says. Though i do like to cause chaos sometimes, big spanner at hand. :suspect:

I did have my chart done 15/20 yrs ago, i still have it somewhere and on some things it was spot on. The one thing i do remember her telling me was that i would either marry once only, or many times, (which now sounds wierd) Well i have been married once only so far (though hopefully i have a few more years to go yet, so you never know ;) )

I think sometimes they can be right it depend on how you read it into your situation at the time, i read mine occasionally (usually when on hols) and i don't run my life around them. It is not a high priority. I read it and it reckons i am gonna be lucky, i don't expect to win the lottery.

Most newspaper horoscopes are duff 'coz you're supposed to read your ascendant sign, but everybody reads their sunsign, which will be way off beam.

My ascendant is Gemini. Early this year I was informed of my career prospects being rosy. Great. I'm a student and a home maker. No chance of that coming true then. Some weeks later I recieved a phone call from a previous employer from 5 years ago. 'We're desparate. Can you help us out for a few days?' They were desparate enough to pay twice the normal rate, and hotel bills! They've since put loads more work my way!

Sun in Aries.
Ascendant in Libra.
Moon in Capricorn.
I did actually used to be an astrologer (mid 80s)
Take it from a natal chart ( EXACT Time and place of birth) You will get a personality profile that works.
Apply that information to the planetary positions 'now' ie 'transits'
and it may help in terms of making positive decisions in life direction.
May post further, my not. Forum members seem to be generally 'blinkered' on this sort of subject, and I really can't be arsed, to be quite honest.
(OK if I can't be arsed I should not have posted)

:loopy:

Strix

Funny, I had that same 'can't be arsed' feeling. How many non-believers just dont want a reasoned argument? There was a study conducted in france where the time and place of birth must be entered on the birth certificate. The idea was to disprove this birth chart thing. Needless to say they proved it does work.

Copy of my blurb from 'psychics..?' There's a lot of cranks out there, but there's a lot of things we dont understand as well as our pre-christian ancestors did. You only need to look at the discoveries we're making in medecine now, by examining some of the quack remedies of the past, to know that 'witchcraft' had substance.

And horoscopes? the 'A' level physics answer: gravity + electricity = force. The moon's gravitational pull exerts a force on earth as proved by the tides. Your brain works on electric pulses. There is a resultant force - so what does it do?

Funny you should say that. Years ago I had a girlfriend who always read her horoscope and (kind of) believed there was something in it.

One day I was reading the paper and she asked me to read her horoscope out to her. I forget what star sign she was, but for a laugh I picked a different one and read that out loud instead. Immediately she said "oh yes, that's sooo true. That's exactly what happened this week" etc etc.

Strangely enough, she didn't see the funny side when I told her later.

In the sixties, a french academic called Michel Gauquelin set out to disprove the validity of astrology.
After making up a large number astrological of charts he found there was a highly significant correlation between certain planets and the position of these planets in the charts, and the career choice of the individuals whose charts had been drawn up.
This was a small part of his research.
He went on to spend the rest of his career researching astrology.
Can't be arsed to say more. If anyone is that interested, 'Google' M Gauquelin there are thousands of entries:thumbsup:

I dont really believe in any of the astrological do-dahs but I do find it all fascinating outside of the tabloids, anyone can make up a horoscope, done it myself for a student rag!

All the other stuff, tarot, palmistry, numerology, pendulum readings... done them all myself purely for entertainment purposes and because I do find it interesting.

I think your personality and other hilarious traits come primarily from your upbringing and the people you choose to associate yourself with not from what day you were born, and dont even get me started on the whole your future is mapped out according to what house uranus is in :hihi: the old jokes are the best.

Personally, I wouldn't bother too much with daily horoscopes in papers, etc - they are only general indicators of what is going on and really just describe overall trends. IMO, this is not much use for an individual looking for guidance in their life.

Again, IMO, the real value of astrology lies in natal charts - a unique, personal chart based on the exact time, date and place where an individual was born. A birth chart can provide fascinating insight into a person's character and motivations, etc that can really help someone to understand him/herself and what makes them tick.

For someone seeking specific guidance or looking for an explanation of what is happening in their life right now, getting a qualified astrologer to check your current transits using your birth details is, in my opinion, a far more accurate and helpful thing to do than looking at newspaper horoscopes.

Just my thoughts :)

Thanks for the link, strix. Will have a closer look tomorrow.
Fergus (the dog) is sleeping in his bed by the side of my feet as I type (aaawh!)
He has an eye infection and a 'chops' infection - a further £45 at the vets yesterday....
BUT - we will see him right:clap:

Yeah, he's cute. You havent been back to 'would you eat this sandwich' have you?

Hope he gets better soon. I'm wasting far too much time on here, but I've got 3 weeks off work to nurse my invalid beagle. Can't go any where. Can't do anything. And now that he can walk again he thinks he can do anything. I spend most of the day screaming 'NO!' 'Don't RUN' 'WAIT' 'stay DOWN'. You wouldn't believe the broken back/paralysis was only operated on 3.5 weeks ago. (your vets bill looks like coppers compared to mine!)

What happened to his eye?

In my case, Cancer. I am much more aggressive [if provoked] than the Cancerian is meant to be. However, I am a very late Cancerian nearly overlapping into Leo. Is overlap acknowledged?

If an overlap is there you are born on the 'cusp' - Your traits are therefore witty and ambitious. You will have great creativity and be at the front of a new design or creative urge! You will also be a great thinker and have a very good memory. You can be very emotional but again be very happy - as long as someone is paying you enough attention!

You beat me to it, Strix - I was going to suggest Jonsastar has discovered his Ascendant!!

This is one issue in astrology that I've never found a definitive answer for - when reading your daily/weekly horoscope, should you be reading your Sun Sign or your Ascendant Sign?

The confusion seems to me to be a strong argument for having your own personal natal chart cast and being guided by that, rather than paying any attention to generalised horoscopes in the papers, etc.

StarSparkle

PS I'm a Leo with an Aquarian Moon

I've noticed that they always say nice things about you, thats to get you to believe it (not that I'm saying your not any of those thinmgs Timo), if they said you were misserable, ugly and prone to blackheads and flatulance people wouldn't be as likely to believe it.

You might have gathered I think it's a load of old twoddle.

My moon is in Gemini, and that seems to be quite true, as your moon sign is your mood isn't it?

I dont know what time I was born, may be I lucky guessed my ascendant star sign, what ever I did it is almost spot on most of the time, unlike my birth sign which always seems to for see bad happenings.

Muddycoffee - Your Sun sign tells about your basic ego, your Moon sign tells about you emotional inner self, and your Ascendant tells about your outer presentation to the rest of the world.

Jonsastar - it sounds to me like you have found your Ascendant - you obviously feel a strong affinity with the zodiac sign you've taken to reading. To know for certain though, you would need to know your exact time of birth.

Some astrologers would argue that people SHOULD go by their Ascendant sign when reading their horoscopes - others, like Jonathan Cainer who I personally admire, would say to read your sun sign. Who is correct??

In general, sun sign/ascendant sign horoscopes are really only a bit of fluff anyway, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. They're far too general to mean much to an individual most of the time. Anyone wanting any real guidance or advice via astrology should have their own personal birth chart drawn up and interpreted by a qualified astrologer.

The above are just my thoughts on the subject - I am NOT a qualified astrologer! (although very interested in it) :)

I am a Sagittarius and i am fun loving, generous and extremely friendly. I rarely tell lies, and i'm mostly I have marvellous intuitions that I should take notice of, but most of the time don't. I think I am pretty clever because I'm so interested in everything. I can be a bit rude but that's only because I'm very honest and will say exactly what I think. I love travel and fast cars. I also love spending money, so a credit card should be avoided lol. My birthday is also on nov 27th so snap Pauly, lol!

Im libra (6 October) - my profile therefore is:

Short Summary

Librans are emotionally impulsive and just love being in love. In fact they can get quite depressed if they feel unwanted. They're also known as 'Lazy Libran' because they don't like to make decisions. They're just happy to go with the flow. They're fantastically beautiful. People will do anything for them. They're affectionate and sympathetic and intensely interested in people. They love entertaining and lots of good food, which means they're forever dieting. They're also the world's biggest spenders.

Soooooooooooooooooo true its scary

Hello
I just wondered how many folk out there believe in that astrology rubbish. I think it's total tosh, but I'd say 70% of folk actually think something is in it. The ones i've spoke to do anyway. What do you think? I've just read one for my sign, aires on a website called catonion - and it actually implied i was a serial killer or something!

Do you mean the onion?

The horoscopes there are genius! They're the only ones I believe.

In general terms I think horoscopes can give a few clues about personality, though chinese signs are much more accurate IMHO.

I'm far more of a pig (the year I was born) than a goat (the sign I am)

I was talking about this to my friend earlier so it's been interesting to see this thread.

I'm a capricorn, and I'd say I do have capricorn traits, but I'm reading the the big long portrait thing on astro.com and it's scarily true!

When I was discussing it earlier, we were agreeing the bits that we were finding out about each other and our friends were true too.

I know that tabloid horoscopes are a load of rubbish, but Mystic Meg has said a few things that could be potentially true... For example, if I'd manage to be with a certain person on the day she said something, then it would be true, but I don't actually get the opportunity to make it true. That doesn't make sense does it? It's hard to explain! But it's happened a few times and it's very weird!

So I think I do believe in it all, kind of reluctantly....

Yeah, the horoscopes on www.catonion.com are great. They have me nailed every week. They predict exactly what I do. Catonion is class as well.

It's done by a bunch of people based in Sheffield as well.

nick2
30-09-2005, 10:52
I like thet way they get you to agree with them by buttering you up first then saying something nasty.

Like they say "Taurus - you are loving caring person." and you think "yes I am, thats so accurate", but then it says "however you can be a fat hairy obstroculous git", and you think "yeah, thats fair, I can be", then they round of with another niceness like "pepople feel they can trust you".

It's a load of cobblers.
