Okay so my website has certain concepts that have been used else where. What does the copyright stand like on this. Obviously my site isn't just a rip off (its about German Cars and the concepts come from a well know networking site - See if you can guess which one!!!) I have used a commenting system for the images and also a commenting system on the profile page. Just bothered that Im gonna get taken to the cleaners.

Hi,

You can't copyright an idea - ideas are covered by patents.

If you use a technique that someone has a patent on, then you might eventually be sued, but usually only if people consider it worthwhile.

If you take a few ideas from various places and implement them on your site, then it's highly unlikely that soemone will sue you unless you do contravene a patent.

Suing people on 'look and feel' issues is not as common these days as it was. People found it was easier to try and patent busienss processes and chase people for patent violation than 'look and feel'.

If you've 'borrowed' images then you're in breach of copyright, and if you've lifted chunks of Javascript or HTML code from another site then you're in breach.

Na it's all written by these fair hands. is there a way to find out if the idea is patented then.

Do a patent search, or wait... :)

I doubt that it's worth you worrying at this point.
