By Caesarean section thankfully! Apparently his growth was affected by the mother's diabetes. Full story and picture here:

She had a c section apparently.

Giving birth to my daughter was easier than my son when he was born at 7lb12 but he was my first and I had to sit on a rubber ring for days. :|

OMG - will he still grow or not gain weight for a while so the others catch up? Or will he always be enormous?

Hope there are no long-term health issues for him.

Oh stop it!! I'm 5 days overdue, my first was an eye watering 9lb 6 and I got tested for gestational diabetes this time, but I havn't got it thank goodness. Making my eyes water thinking about what I have got to go through any minute soon!

Quite possible, especially as the report says the biggest newborn on record was 23lbs!

It's time something was done about these obese babies and the strain they put on the NHS. If they didn't just lie around there all day in the womb eating Mcdonalds and KFC, maybe they wouldn't come out so fat..... :o

dear god, i should hope she did at that size!!
my old next door neighbour gave birth to a 13lb-er, many years ago (he must be 50 if he's a day) and she had a horrendous time with him as she didn't have a c-section. (she never had another, btw!).

I wonder about the Canadian woman back in the 1800s who had the 23lb baby - were c-sections freely available back then?!?

it "could" be done, but cleanliness, and lack of anaesthetics made it a very risky business for both mother and baby. (not that childbirth wasn't risky enough back then)

that is also highly likely the reason why the poor thing didn't survive more than 11 hours.

Julius caesar was allegedly born by a caesarian section, which shows that medics "knew" about how to do it, but it a) was extremely rare, and b) is possibly something of an Urban Legend and a play on the word "caesar" which "may" mean "knife, or "Cut".

I'd just be thankful for the c-section if i was her.

She'll have arms like garth carrying that weight from newborn.
It 6 months old already.

Our first was 9lb 5oz - our second 12lb 3oz! Both natural births. The midwife weighed the second one three times, she couldn't believe how heavy he was - more to do with his length, 26", than being fat.

I have undying admiration for my wife after what she went through - and for all women who give birth.

All the best!

When my wife was having our second baby, in the next bed to her was a woman who gave to a 13lb 2oz baby. I bet that took some parting with
