once stayed in a hotel for a romantic break and was presented with a chocolate rose on a plastic stem! It went straight in the bin!

My partner once carved me a perfect smooth round heart out of a piece of yew wood , so it's like "I love yew".I think thats the nicest valentine gift I've ever had,and completely unique.

I don't think I've ever had anything thats been particularly nice! Or particularly bad! Just "acceptable" And I like things one way or the other! lol!

If a fella ever cooked me a meal for valentines and tried to get everything right, then I'd appreciate it so much more than just taking me to a restaurant of my choosing and picking up the bill... Thoughtless!

Not for me either, although to be honest I don't believe in Valentine's Day, IMO it was created by card shops in order to sell cards during the quiet period apart from birthdays between Christmas and Easter,

I agree with you here. I dont like Valentines Day either.Just another excuse for the card shops to rip people off.

Me and our lass are going to a restaurant for Valentines Day, and SHE'S paying! :heyhey: only kidding, it's the blokes turn as usual.

I'm trying to think of doing, or getting her something else aswell, but I'm clueless as to what women want.

The dead sparrow I gave her last year didnt go down very well, and as for the cabbage the year before...That was a disaster.

The newer the relationship, the more likely you are to fall back on Valentine's Day clichés. You tend to become more imaginative later on, if you can still be bothered :hihi: . Actually, thinking about it, the Valentine's Day clichés tend to reappear once you stop bothering too :( .

I think that a series of little things would really do it for me...
Ideally, I'd wake up with a card on my doormat... Go about the daily grind then find a note in my bag, from my special one... Then come home to find that he'd popped by to place a rose on my pillow, and him in the kitchen cooking my tea! Followed by a lovely bath with rose petals and candlelight... Thats my idea of bliss! No need for restaurants/gifts. Just do that and my heart will be yours! :D

Is it just me or is this thread concentrating on what women do or do not want on feb 14th? how about us guys?

It may be boring but me and my wife decided years ago that on 14th Feb a card will do, no need to go mad. But I still get her the odd present (odd as in an ornamental giant snail) here and there just when I spot something I think she'd like. She does the same for me, we don't need a "Hallmark" day to prove our feelings for each other.

A few years ago I received a (very small) half-empty bottle of whisky and a rather forlorn looking rose he'd torn out of someone's garden.

He then proceeded to drink the whisky himself whilst I cut my finger on one of the rose's thorns.

Who said romance was dead eh? :hihi:

He's now an ex :D

My sister got the worst V-Day gift ever: It came through the mail from her then-boyfriend who was working for the Pentagon. It was a transparent blouse from Victoria's Secret... unfortunately, there was a sales receipt inside indicating that he'd bought TWO of the same item.

To this day, she has no idea who got the second see-through blouse!:suspect:

Best present I ever got from a beau: A parafoil, one of those big, beautiful kites made of colorful ripstop nylon fabric. It was very romantic because we used to fly kites together when we first started dating. We took it on vacation and flew it over the ocean on a Florida beach.
