Proper quality as always. And what a lucky bloke the hamster is. Just glad he was sat there watching it and laughing at Jeremy's jokes. Did clarkson have tears in eyes or was I seeing things

I would say there were tears, and I agree the sentiment of what a lucky guy, what a crash :o

It wasn't the crash that gave the lump in the throat but The fact that he was still sat there watching it. A brave man for getting in the car but even braver for been able to sit there and watch it over and over again.

I couldn't beleive he was still cracking the jokes!!!!!!! Although I did chuckle a couple of times. I personally think a good job he dint spot it. Surely the chute would have just added lift. Anyways no point in what if's. the guy is sat there and what a legend. Long Live The HAMSTER!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, he appeared to look a little jaded tonight, can't put my fingure on it, but there was just something about him that I couldnt work out. Physically, he seemed intact, but I must say that he seemed somewhat aged. Maybe by about 8 years? Dark eye bags, and a few more wrinkles than usual. He didnt seem as "plastic" (manufactured) some how.

Top performance all the same, just a wee observation that made me wonder.... hope the lad's alrighty outta the spotlight.

I'm not a petrol head by any means but I was looking forward to the new series as it can make me laugh and is entertaining.
I liked all the unseen footage of Hammonds other runs and the sheer excitement that was plainly evident for him. If the techies were right and he demonstrated the reflexes of a fighter pilot what I wonder did he try to do in the fractions of a second before he came unstuck?
Also that has got to be a first surely, a road repair crew working through the night as whenever I've seen roadworks the men have all disappeared by 4pm.
Hope the rest of the series manages to be as entertaining.

oh it usually manages to float my boat, although having said that, it's not about boats.

Lucky man he is, also a top bloke to watch, as the 3 of them are together. After a lengthy discussion the other night (whilst slightly intoxicated) my best mate and I came to the conclusion, that the mixture of 3 seemingly complete different personas, makes for great watching.

Maybe a little older but I think the largest part of it was nerves. he knew that through this first show the entire country would be watching him and waiting in anticipation of the ensuing crash. A little sick but you only have to see the tailbacks caused on motorways by the accident on the other side to realise that us humans love to see a good smash. He did look like he was a bit of a scared rabbit in the headlights. Im sure it was probably the most terrifying show he as had to produce for Top Gear

yes I had the exact same thoughts, but then its not surprising really considering what he's been through. glad to have him back though

Complete respect to Richard Hammond and his amazing recovery BUT, I know he was going incredibly fast, but am I the only one that thought the crash didn't look quite as spectacular as it appeared from still images in the paper?

I think they are getting away from the point of what the show is supposed to be about. Cars. Last night they reviewed one new car and that cost 70000

Maybe but, I think that the fact that the crash occured at 280 + miles an hour wasnt reflected on the TV. For a crash at that speed it was particularly spectacular.

But had it been a more spectacular crash, I think the likelihood is that he wouldn't have been around to watch it...

I know it is repeated on telewest reply if you have that. I did not watch it for the crash like many did, but maily for the fact that i love the show.
Its very funny and i was in lol at all three of them when they was doing the road works. Up to now tho the car/boat one and caravan one from the last series was the funniest one ive seen. But glad to see hammond fully recoverd and back on this program, i dont think it be the same without him or any of the other two, and he was very lucky after i seen the crash bit, and to see Top gear back with still the witt and jokeing about that made this show.

I'm getting bored with how contrived it is getting, all the fakeness about the challenges is getting on my nerves. They should go back to driving cars like lunatics.

Exactly, the show (along with all the fixed challenges) is now all style over substance. Its a phallic extension for Clarkson, no more no less. Still entertaining though.

Edit: After seeing Clarkson on the terrible Jonathan Woss show he has now gone way down in my estimation. He came across as someone who was simply trying to be controversial without the benefit of intellect. I expected much more of him.
