Over the last week or so my mouse cursor suddenly leaps across the screen for no apparent reason. The direction it takes and when it occurs is totally random.
Any ideas why this might have happened?

I'm not using the logitec driver as it totally screwed one of my Genealogy programs.I'm just using the MS generic one.
I think I'll delete it and reinstall.
Thanks for giving me the idea..

Is it an optical mouse or a ball mouse? If it's a ball mouse it may need cleaning. If it's an optical mouse it may be down to the surface you are using it on.

Yep, optical mice need a mostly plain surface to work on. I've been installing new pc's/monitors/keyboards and optical mice for a government department for the last 8 or 9 months and it's amazing how many people tell me their new mouse is crap! Always turns out that they're using a fancy patterned mousemat which confuses the hell out of an optical mouse :D

If its wireless I find synchronising them sometimes helps in this situation.

It probably needs cleaning. Ball mice get gunk on the rollers and optical mice can get hairs stuck over the sensor. Check your mouse's rear.
