My computer is playing up.

I believe it has a worm.

what is happening, is, after about just 10 minutes of use, a window opens up, and says

"this machine is shutting down, and will restart"

"you have one minute to save any unsaved work. if you do not save the work, it will be lost"

then, a one-minute countdown will start.

I am finding it incredibly irritating, and frustrating. I am getting to read just one thread on the forum, before the shutdown will occur again.

I am using, as my operating system the newer windows system (I think it's called XP?)

can anyone help?
Please?

before I go completely mad,
ta,
PT

You need to download the security patches from windows update.
To do this you will need to stop the computer rebooting!! when it comes up with the shutdown screen and starts to shutdown, click start, run, and type shutdown -a that will stop the shutdown
It may start shutting down again, if it does type shutdown -a again until the updates have downloaded.
At a guess you want to search for the msblast patch, that should stop it.
