View Full Version : Names for the boys...
Sorry, im gettin over excited with all the threads im starting but its great i can chat to people about it. Ive registered at some baby websites but i prefer it here as ive been a member here for a while.
anyways can you help me with some idea's please.
I like jus names that are jus slightly off normal. Nothing too wacky but jus slightly abnormal (if this make sense lol)
Zak, I like Zak, it's nice and unusual without being weird.
I had a thing about Cade as well but when pregnant my Mum pointed out that it's the kind of name that will become the next Chelsea or Chardonnay!
evildrneil 27-01-2007, 23:04 I've always liked Lucien for some reason - not sure why though, perhaps because it is that bit unnusual?
FairyNormal 27-01-2007, 23:06 My son was very nearly called Oscar but it just didn't suit him when he popped out! I plumped for Isaac instead :) I also like Reuben.
yummyyumyum 27-01-2007, 23:11 i love xavier and demitri, hubby likes dominic and obe.
these are some of the names that were thrown around between us when i was expecting. some might think lucky i had a girl....lol.
ps, congrats on your pregnancy!
please dont go for anything that is a location, brand or popular singer.
unless you wear tracksuits and are 15...then knock urself out haha

Joe is a superb name. :)
In my father's family there was an Idris and a Wade.
Claire18 28-01-2007, 09:54 I have cousins called Jayden, Gabriel and Rocco which I think are all slightly different from the 'norm'.
Good luck!
Jabberwocky 28-01-2007, 09:57 Im watching this thread closely, We`re still at war over a boys name.

Jabberwocky 28-01-2007, 10:40 What about Fynn or Luke for boys names? I think Gabriel is a girl's name isn't it??
I used to know a huge rastafarian called Gabriel. When I first met him I was told that I was going to meet someone called Gabriel, and I expected it to be a girl, so I got myself all nice and stopped picking my nose and stuff, and in through the door came this huge bloody great bloke!
I did a little poo that day.
I love my son's name - Corey owen
Claire18 28-01-2007, 10:45 I think Gabriel is a girl's name isn't it??
No. Gabrielle is a girls name
AnyBrand 28-01-2007, 13:54 Ooops I see my mistake now:)
How about my son's name Ivan? or Wilf? neither common nor weird.
We had a nightmare with chosing a boys name when I was pregnant. We had loads of girls names, but I have always liked Owen, hubby hated that, so we agreed on Samuel James and I like that now, although we do shorten it to Sam.:)
I also like Adam and Jake
I like traditional names.
If we have have a boy we naming it after my Grandad who passed away a couple of years ago.
His name was Alfred, but we'd shorten it to Alfie. and I like George for a middle name.
When's your due date? I'm due on 29th June...
I like Alexander for a boy- then he can choose Alex, Lex or Xander as a shortened form if he chooses.

Boys names i like are: Ethan, Noah, Nathaniel and Gabriel (my sister's name is Gabrielle and i think both names are lovely).
I'm not pregnant...but my mum was last year so we discussed lots of names, thats why it appears like i've put alot of thought into it. :)
Beancounter 28-01-2007, 19:58 My friends have recently had sons called Hal, Luca and Connor. Quite like all of them.

Xavier
Andre
Danny
dramadiva 30-01-2007, 08:01 Some good names on here, we ended up with a Jacob as that's what he looked like when he arrived.
He was nearly Isaac as someone mentioned earlier, ut i mainly liked the fact that it means 'he who laughs'.
Others we liked were Noah (but couldn't call him that as his name would be Noah Beech!), Adam, Elija, Nathan - Biblical names i guess.
i like owen and harvey, and my nephews are connor and finley which are fairly unusual without being weird!
another name i like, think he was my great great grandad, emerson.

Yeah I like these types of names. My son is called Elijah !
MrsCarter 30-01-2007, 15:23 I love the name Harrison. That's what my baby girl was going to be if she'd have turned out to be a boy :) I got a Holly instead
Others we liked were Noah (but couldn't call him that as his name would be Noah Beech!)
What's wrong with Noah Beech? Sounds fine to me.
babychickens 30-01-2007, 15:37 edward, alexander. i used to love the name michael until i went out with someone called that and he spoiled it for me. we have also discussed the possibility of valentine as a middle name. you know, make sure the kid learns to fight his corner from an early age...
We are having this debate too. However, I do have issues though with names that are a 'bit different' as I dont want to sentence my child to a life of having to spell their name or have people not be able to pronounce it. Kids after all just want to fit in- they need this as part of their development. If they are cool and confident then they can carry an unusual name but if they are not it becomes an ideal target for ridicule. I think boys particularly are succeptably to ridicule for unusual names. Though of course I also agree it would be dull if we all stuck to the same old names and some names are just so popular there isnt much scope for individuality. My husband has quite a traditional name and loads of our friends have the same name- we went to a comedy club as 3 couples once and all the blokes had the same name. As you can imagine a lot of milleage was had out of that!!
fox20thc 30-01-2007, 21:33 Frederick albert Princeton :D
dramadiva 31-01-2007, 08:03 What's wrong with Noah Beech? Sounds fine to me.
all i could think when it was saidwas Noah beech? - Cleethorpes not far on the train!

definately agree with that - calling your boy xavier or horatio or something equally duff will result in merciless teasing from a young age.
stick with regular names, or if you must be 'a bit different' don't make it a tortuous exercise for the little lad.
hennypenny 31-01-2007, 08:46 Some names of lads I have come across recently:-
Roman, Freddie, Theo, Eli, Solly, Hugo, Laurence, Kit, Evan, Odin, Benedict, Russell, Tiger, Max, Duncan, Logan, Hanno, Saul, Barnaby, Pierre
I guess I hang around with slightly unconventional parents :hihi:
MrsCarter 31-01-2007, 09:41 I like Iain.
Me too :) It's lovely.
UpTheBlades 31-01-2007, 12:11 what about archie ,freddie, harry ,oliver is nice also .charlie is lovely:thumbsup: our first daughter was going to be charlie or jack and our second daughter was going to be archie you never know i might get to name a boy one day:thumbsup:
kitty123 04-02-2007, 08:56 Mac or Jude are both great and well underused names
cosywolf 04-02-2007, 19:53 Jude - and then you can sing 'Hey Jude' to him...a classic.
Hi, I have been struggling finding boys names I like.
I quite like Daniel, Ben & my favourite so far is
Dominic.
I really like that. all the time I wanted a girl. but I find boys are cuter when they are younger. I am 19 weeks tomorrow.
UpTheBlades 26-02-2007, 14:26 Jude - and then you can sing 'Hey Jude' to him...a classic.
jude is a lovely name i would have never thought of that if we have another baby that would definately be considerd i like it alot
blossom2 09-05-2007, 21:08 I like Corey James, its not a name you hear very often:
I have chosen Jake (jacob) for a boy, not sure if I will change my mind for when our baby arrives (I've got a few months left yet :( ). I really can't think of a girls name I like! I do like Shannon but my partner knows someone with a girl called Shannon, so he doesn't want that.
chele510 10-05-2007, 20:40 My lads name is callum and everyone I know with the name is a little bugger lol
I really like Samuel though - there' s something very cute about traditional English names like alfie, ben billy bobby joe but if I ever had another boy (which is actually impossible due to me sterilsed) it would be Samuel after my grandad and brother.
my friend is calling her boy samuel. Samuel Lewis
my other half likes Rhys so thats the name of the moment. girls names are sorted. I like devon for a boy. but i dont think we'll be callin bump that.
NatalieSheff 11-05-2007, 11:08 im having a nightmare too(10 weeks to go!) i call my bump Penny but hes a boy so really stuck on names as i used my favourites on my 1st-thinking id never have another!

BrainThrust 11-05-2007, 11:14 How about my son's name Ivan? or Wilf? neither common nor weird.

Wilf

roslynrosie 11-05-2007, 14:34 Irwin thats our new little ones name, i wanted it to be Erwin but my husband thought it was too femenin, so we have an Irwin..

NatalieSheff 15-05-2007, 13:55 i like oliver thats nice, and elijah.
i like oliver thats nice, and elijah.
Ooh, Elijah is my lads name! And I never tire of it. I got a mixed reaction when I called it him - but now people usually say "that's a nice name, I like that" And because it's a bit different, people remember him and at school, because he is the only Elijah there, he hardly ever has to use his surname to identify himself.
shefflass5 16-05-2007, 09:07 my sons name is vaughan michael.his dad picked it i had never heard of the name before.there is nobody called the same name in his school.he says only probably with having unusual name is that everybody remembers him lol
gina2007 09-10-2007, 11:51 Hi, im having a boy and finding it VERY difficult to pin-point the perfect middle name for him.
We've decided on Charlie.
His name would be Charlie _____ (<-Suitable middle name) Walter Latham.
The walter coming from OH's late grandfather. If anyone could give us any nice names for him or recommend anything!
Would be very greatful. Thanks! x
Ginger_Kitty 09-10-2007, 11:53 I know this can sound weird to some people, but we get good inspiration for names from wandering round churchyards!!!
As you have a couple of fairly traditional names this might be a good place to find something.
samantha22 09-10-2007, 11:55 i think Alistair would sound very nice
gina2007 09-10-2007, 11:59 that's a different and unusual idea em3978! Everybodys recommended things but never that! Ooh, I might suggest that tonight. See what he says! Alistair is a nice name too! We originally liked Alfie or Andrew. Thanks to you both!
Ginger_Kitty 09-10-2007, 12:09 Be warned though... it can throw some very interesting names into the mix...
Zebediah???!?!?!?! there's some odd old names out there :)
(I'm glad there's someone else who doesn't think i'm mad for wandering in graveyards ;))
gina2007 09-10-2007, 12:13 :D Nahh, your not mad! Cool and unusual idea.
What does everyone think to Alfie?
Ginger_Kitty 09-10-2007, 12:15 I like Alfie, but i've heard it a lot lately! :(
Though Pumkpin gave me a huge kick the other day when that name was mentioned!!! :o
It was hubby's grandad's name :)
gina2007 09-10-2007, 12:29 Arr! :) That's well cute hehe!
charlie9865 09-10-2007, 16:20 I liked ethan, leyland, blake, shay, and carter and charlie where my name choices if i was having a boy oh and ellis. x
the-lioness 09-10-2007, 16:22 Leyland?????? oh my god ...........
UpTheBlades 09-10-2007, 17:33 my friend is calling her little one if it is a boy Charlie or Louie
fox20thc 09-10-2007, 17:34 My friends little lad is called Shae it suits him too.
I'm not a fan of the traditional and old fashioned names coming back, met lots of Alfie's, Harry's and Henry's recently. Jack has been popular for what seems like forever but I know shedloads of Jack's right now.
I have always liked unusual names, my preferences, before knowing we were having girls, were Gabriel (old but distinctly not fashionable thankfully), Raphael and Zachary but Zak became very popular again and I'm really keen to avoid my kids being no 2 or no 3 in their class with the same name.
I also like Tristan and Iestyn.
I know this can sound weird to some people, but we get good inspiration for names from wandering round churchyards!!!
As you have a couple of fairly traditional names this might be a good place to find something.
lol - I got my son's name from the local grave yard! (Elijah) and people thought I was pretty weird too! Not bothered though - I love it!
Minesadouble 09-10-2007, 19:41 Caleb
I also LOVE the name Gabriel but everyone I've ever said it to gives me a look similar to this :gag: but I think it's a gorgeous name.
My other favourites are:
Michael
Zack
Liam
George
Caleb
Oh yeah Caleb is another nice one too!
charlie9865 10-10-2007, 08:13 Leyland?????? oh my god ...........
pronounced leeland... it's off tv but iv heard a few kids called that
Betty_Boo111 12-10-2007, 14:50 If i had a Boy i would call him Riley.:)
im having a boy in december and have decided to call him cale
if we have a boy we have got logan george, after both grandads that were called george!!! either that or finlay so my partner gets his finbar name, hes obsessed with the damn name its driving me potty!!!!
lauren84 15-10-2007, 16:10 I have chosen Jake (jacob) for a boy, not sure if I will change my mind for when our baby arrives (I've got a few months left yet :( ). I really can't think of a girls name I like! I do like Shannon but my partner knows someone with a girl called Shannon, so he doesn't want that.
I've been saying Shannon for a girl since I have found out that I am pregnant. I have read through the boys names because I'm struggling and I'm sorry to have to say that I still can't find one I really like. There are loads that I think - Yeah thats ok but not what I would choose.
Charlie was our boys name through both my last pregnancies. All the Charlie's I know are real little monkeys though but I still love the name.
Also love Jack, Lucas, Luke, Max & many of the other suggestions (I haven't read all the pages).
honeyb35 16-10-2007, 14:58 Ooh, Elijah is my lads name! And I never tire of it. I got a mixed reaction when I called it him - but now people usually say "that's a nice name, I like that" And because it's a bit different, people remember him and at school, because he is the only Elijah there, he hardly ever has to use his surname to identify himself.
Out of interest how do you pronounce that? And do you get people mispronouncing it a lot? My first 2 had really common names and I wanted something more unusual for my 3rd, but get sick of how people pronounce it!
I love Zachery and Toby for a boy, but OH is v straitlaced. We argued constantly over a boys name and the poor mite was nameless for a week, I wanted something different but he wanted a 'good solid' name grrr. I eventually gave him the choice between Oliver and Matthew lol.
Elijah is pronounced Ee - lie - ja. And no, surprisingly, I've not had many people pronounce it wrong. Except for an Indian teacher he had when he first started school. She would insist on calling him ELIZA!! :loopy::loopy: which didn't go down too well! (don't know where she got the Z from!)
honeyb35 16-10-2007, 16:33 Elijah is pronounced Ee - lie - ja. And no, surprisingly, I've not had many people pronounce it wrong. Except for an Indian teacher he had when he first started school. She would insist on calling him ELIZA!! :loopy::loopy: which didn't go down too well! (don't know where she dot the Z from!)
ooh yay I was pronouncing it right! my daughter is Nataliya but loads of people pronounce that 'nat - ar - lia which sounds a bit posh for me lol
sall242003 24-10-2007, 21:07 My sons name is Rio, he is the only Rio in his nursery and the only Rio I know (other than the obvious footballer!)
I was dubious about naming him something so different but Im really glad I did as suits him so well!
samantha22 25-10-2007, 09:56 i named my son Kerigan, its an irish surname but its spelt Kerrigan, so i took out an 'r'! I have never heard anyones first name in the UK thats Kerigan and there is no one at my sons nursery that is called Kerigan
lauradrury 15-11-2007, 11:24 just found out im having another boy and we r totally stuck on names need something nice to go with jake owen our other son any ideas guys ????????? :|
Raychul69 15-11-2007, 11:26 Congrats hun
How about Archie?
charlie9865 15-11-2007, 11:32 I like ja-james..nice name and diffrent. Also like harrison. My eldest is called jake and my other son is called corey. congrats by the way x x x
Raychul69 15-11-2007, 11:53 Harrison is a lovely name, I wanted that if I'm having a boy but my hubby's ex who he has a child with has that for a surname. So I'd have Emiilie Harrison-Webster and Harrison Webster. It would be far too confusing! lol
xxsarahxx 15-11-2007, 12:18 i love names like Archie and Alfie but i love my sons name Ben,its simple and really suits him..:)
honeyb35 15-11-2007, 19:46 Congrats!! I like the boys names Toby and Zachery (my partner never did though grr) my sons called Matthew, another name I liked was Oliver.
Jake Owen and Zach Oliver? Honey's suggestion of Zachary shortened. I think it sounds good and it goes well.
honeyb35 16-11-2007, 07:01 Jake Owen and Zach Oliver? Honey's suggestion of Zachary shortened. I think it sounds good and it goes well.
aww yeah thats nice! almost makes me want another - except i've been up all night with my ratbag :hihi:
lauradrury 16-11-2007, 08:43 its so frustrating nothing seems to jump out at us this time round i think our fave names at the mo are alfie, harry and sam. my partner is welsh so he would like a welsh middle name or some sort of welsh in there. we have plenty of time anyway but thanks for the suggestions they r great keep em coming. im so excited yesterday was such a fab day finding out and jake is very happy he is getting a brother x
gina2007 16-11-2007, 09:36 Im due a boy in january and we've stuck on the name Charlie. If he happens to come on 24th january his middle names going to be Walter (My Oh late grandads name..24th OH late grandads birthday) but if he doesn't come on that date it'll be Charlie Alfie :)
fatboyslim 16-11-2007, 11:12 Congrats!! I like the boys names Toby and Zachery (my partner never did though grr) my sons called Matthew, another name I liked was Oliver.
Great Minds think alike etc etc,
We have Matthew (Matt) and Oliver (Ollie)
my partner is welsh so he would like a welsh middle name or some sort of welsh in there. x
I have heard a fabulous Welsh middle name recently - Iestyn (pronounced Yestin roughly for those who never heard it).
I love the spelling and I love the sound of it too.
mrs gough 17-11-2007, 10:57 I love the name kingsley for a boy.
lauradrury 20-11-2007, 12:22 i think we have decided on a name what do u guys think to dylan rhys, my partner is welsh you see???
honeyb35 20-11-2007, 15:50 I like that, v cute!
Dylan is a lovely name,I like Adam.My teen boys are Lewis and James.Heard an unusual name recently Ferdinand:hihi:!It was my great grandads and his dads name.
littlewizzle 16-03-2008, 15:12 i know it sound crazy but i cant make my mind up on what my little fellows name will be , and ive only got 2 weeks left :o
i also know just in case ppl say i shouldnt be asking forum members on what to call my baby :loopy:,
so ive got 5 names and i would like you to vote on the one you like the most , as i like them all but cant seem to pick the right one:huh::D:D
rubydazzler 16-03-2008, 15:18 Not long to go, how exciting, bet you can't wait! Maybe you should wait until you actually meet him? Sometimes the name just picks itself then!
Hope your labour goes well and he arrives without too much trouble for you. x
PS I like Lincoln, but spelt like the City with the extra 'L' and Kenzie is unusual.
hennypenny 16-03-2008, 15:19 Sometimes you have to wait until you see them, as some names just won't fit the baby when they are here, and another name might jump out at you.
My lad was supposed to be called Thomas Joseph, but while my hubby was off telling everyone he had arrived I had a dream where I was calling him Christopher, and that stuck - it was name that wasn't even on our list!
weenireeni 16-03-2008, 15:40 I like Oscar, quite quirky.
Lincoln is nice but as I'm from there, its not that great!
good luck with whatever you choose! :)
muckynees 16-03-2008, 15:49 Ha it's so much easier to pick a name for someone elses baby!
Personally I can't decide between Lincon and Harrison. I have to agree with Hennypenny, sometimes a name just jumps out at you and you know that "it's the one".
I've got 7 weeks left and still can't agree with OH on a name so I'm hoping that something will jump out at me soon!!!
i voted for harrison. it was a name i really liked but his surname will be johnson. harrison johnson didnt sound so good! my little boy is now called liam instead..or at least he wil be when he finally arrives!
muckynees 16-03-2008, 16:00 Haha, are you still here Em2007?
yep sure am!! think i've got nice comfy insides! or just a lazy little boy!
Raychul69 17-03-2008, 09:19 I love the name Harrison.
I wanted this name but my husbands ex has this as her surname so Mark would have one child called Emillie Harrison and one as Harrison Webster  lol
I like Reggie. You'd have to give him the full version of the name though - Reginald. I insist on full names ;)
SpeedDemon 17-03-2008, 10:53 My springer spaniel was called Reggie, i have Harrison (altho i really love that name) n Oscar as rabbits names, so i guess i'd go for Lincoln :hihi:
My friend has a baby 6 months old called Harrison, and he is sooo cute.
I like Harrison (but I would have to insist it didn't get shortened to Harry). I also like Kenzie but I would, - mine is called MacKenzie! (but she's a girl!)
pinklady 17-03-2008, 20:48 Max, top name
Birth-Peace 17-03-2008, 20:53 I think Oscar is a great name for a little lad
Flutterbyes 17-03-2008, 20:58 oscar!!!!!
Have you decided on a name yet littlewizzle?
I voted Oscar, it's my Christmas Tree's name (safer not to ask) so to hear it always makes me feel festive :)
Have you made a decision yet?
i like harrison thats what my baby was going to be called if it was a boy but she was a girl so i called her lacy-mae. hope all goes well with you and baby
littlewizzle 10-04-2008, 15:13 Have you decided on a name yet littlewizzle?
i think its gunna be harrison ,just got to get oh to like it ,cause hes a mardy bum:hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi:
We had Harrison and Max picked for our first but she was a girl so we called her Holly.
*Peaches* 19-05-2008, 07:16 Ok I need help :help:
Me and the OH STILL can't decide on a name.
I like
Alexander
Alex Zander
Sebastian
He doesn't like any of them, he likes Eoin (owen) but with his surname it doesn't fit, any suggestions?
I'd like something you don't hear much but not too unusual he's going to have the mick took out of him when he's older
cosywolf 19-05-2008, 07:32 I feel your pain! I'm nearly all the way through the baby names book, Zebra has spent hours shooting names at me, everyone I talk to has a suggestion - and nothing is sticking!
We named our first in a way which meets all your criteria...it is unusual but not unheard of. And you can be anything you want with a name like that.
So how do we beat that?
So far our list of non-vomitous names include:
Emlyn
Caled
and taking up the rear, Bailey (his choice, not mine), Quinn
I don't even know what i like any more, I hear name after name in my sleep, lol. It might be that I look back on this thread in a couple of days and think eeeewwww! but even that will help, lol.
*Peaches* 19-05-2008, 07:34 I know the whole reading-through-the-baby-book-and-hating-everything feeling. I've looked through mine about 100 times and I don't like anything
Lance was another I liked
kizzypar 19-05-2008, 08:14 i think a great name for a little boy is alfie. i was going to call mine this but she turned out to be a girl lol
i think a great name for a little boy is alfie. i was going to call mine this but she turned out to be a girl lol
my little boy is called alfie, he's named after his great grandad Alfred who sadly passed away 3yrs ago.
the name on his birth certificate is Alfred George. (very traditional):)
I really like traditional names like Arthur, Archie, Harry, Henry, Wilfred, Hector, Hugo etc
I have a Murray :)
I picked it because i had not heard anyone called it for a long time and since then i know of 4 others :)
We have only just started thinking about names over the last week or so as Bump number 4 isnt due until October! I have three girls so a boy would be a novelty!
Names I like at the moment although they will no doubt change over time are
Charlie
Oscar
Elliot
Oliver
Logan
Picking names is so difficult!! Good Luck
having just had a baby, liam by the way, a lot of names i thought were unusual i have heard of loads. alfie, ellis, elliot, oliver, george, charlie.
i thought liam was fairly common but haven't heard of another so far.
i really like harrison but it didn't go with surname, also like alex, fynn, finlay.
SpeedDemon 19-05-2008, 11:54 I've got an Ellis too. And a Nile. Both a bit unusual. I also like Carter & Regan.
cuddywhite 19-05-2008, 12:31 i have just named my baby boy Chester Riley after chester copperpot in the goonies. Its not a common name and i think people either love or hate it.
Keeley J 19-05-2008, 15:47 Ive recently had a little boy and I liked Blake, and Byron.
But both names wouldnt go with his last name. So we ended up with Dylan.
For a boy I had Lewis or Thomas.
I also like Elliot, Alfie and George
Ive got a little boy called Oliver
emtink12 19-05-2008, 17:25 I find out on friday what im havin but for my boys list i have...
Carter..We both like this.
Cole.. I love it he dosnt.
Riley.. My brother thinks its after the snoker club so he dosnt like it.

i work in a pharmacy and love seeing all the names on the scripts, its giving me so many ideas although other week there was a baby called maximillion!
i like nathan, lewis, liam, connor, ....
There was a baby boy in other day called rannoch which was nice :D very unusual though.
I went through loads of baby name books when I was expecting babybonny - loved lots of girls names but the boys..... none of them really grabbed me. Anyway, dd is now going through exactly the same, and times ticking along.
So far James is the only one getting the thumbs up.
I really like: Archie, Callum, Aiden, Max, Richard, Ashton, Oliver, Sebastian. And also: Noah, Scott, Zane, Carlos, Caleb, Taylor
hennypenny 19-05-2008, 23:31 I love the name Ronan, it is unusual but not weird.
I also love the name Hanno, which is my friends son, but it is a Dutch name.
Other boys names I like:- Dale, Kit, Merrick, Perry and Peter
weenireeni 20-05-2008, 08:14 I love the name Ronan, it is unusual but not weird.
I also love the name Hanno, which is my friends son, but it is a Dutch name.
Other boys names I like:- Dale, Kit, Merrick, Perry and Peter
Ronan is my favourited name too :)
I also like Xander and Nile
the peggsta 20-05-2008, 12:38 For some reason I found it much easier to name my girls than I did my eldest who's a boy, his name is Mitchell.
I also like Roman, Keaton, Riley and also Taylor.
Jabberwocky 20-05-2008, 12:40 Im paying attention to this thread too, we cant decide on a name either, I wanted Dominic but the OH flatly refuses, she doesnt like the name.
waxonwaxoff 20-05-2008, 12:47 We are completly stuck with names for the baby. We dont know wether its a boy or a girl either. I like Alfie for a boy but its the name of my friends cat. Funnily enough I like Daisy for a girl but thats the name of my mums cat.
Jabberwocky 20-05-2008, 15:42 Oh god the OH just read this thread!
Shes got her books of names out now, my evenings gonna take a definate turn for the worse!
waxonwaxoff 20-05-2008, 16:07 Oh god the OH just read this thread!
Shes got her books of names out now, my evenings gonna take a definate turn for the worse!
Tell her to put all the good ones she finds on here to give us some ideas.
Jabberwocky 20-05-2008, 16:08 Well shes got as far as Jasminder. Thats the most unusual one so far.
Jabberwocky 20-05-2008, 16:11 Kimberley and keeley... both boys names aparrantly.
*Peaches* 20-05-2008, 16:25 Kelly is also both
Jabberwocky 20-05-2008, 16:25 Ok this is interesting...
Nikita.
Its a boys name.
People think its a girls name because of the Elton John song where it shows a girl presumably called Nikita.
The song he sang was a love song but it was for a bloke not totty.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l9wBEA_PYnE
Jabberwocky 20-05-2008, 16:33 Otis.
I quite like that one.
*Peaches* 20-05-2008, 16:34 Otis - reminds me of this fella http://www.davebarclay.com/images/191_otis.jpg
kezloucrock 20-05-2008, 16:45 i like oscar,jude,harry,archie,oliver.
Littleboos name is actually Bradie I also have 2 other sons called Rhys and Ethan.
Good old fashioned GABRIEL.
jellybellybean 20-05-2008, 18:43 My top boys names are
Corey
Finley
Alfie
Ethan
Good old fashioned GABRIEL.
I love Gabriel and I had it in mind if one of the twins was a boy, despite other peoples concerns about it's relationship with the word gay and the result of juvenile humour.
Still, it's a moot point, they were girls.
My son is called Alex other names which were on our short list were
Max
Felix
Maddox
Yep I like the x at the end;)
and ..
Cornelius
Oliver
Charlie
Dayne
I love Gabriel and I had it in mind if one of the twins was a boy, despite other peoples concerns about it's relationship with the word gay and the result of juvenile humour.
Still, it's a moot point, they were girls.
I have to admit being biased. My son is 8 now and never had any taunting about his name, his friends tend to call him Gabe or Gabes.
*Peaches* 21-05-2008, 06:47 Oh, I like Gabriel
SpeedDemon 21-05-2008, 07:11 Oh, I like Gabriel
I like that too :D
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
*Peaches* 21-05-2008, 08:24 Only problem I have is with the OH surname being Quinn, its hard to get names that sit right
shells2909 21-05-2008, 16:26 I have to admit being biased. My son is 8 now and never had any taunting about his name, his friends tend to call him Gabe or Gabes.
I love this name too! Especially Gabe.
Other faves of mine are Jude, Finlay and Liam
I like that too :D
So then Gabriella for your LO?
SpeedDemon 21-05-2008, 18:53 I love that. Sadly, the awkward one doesn't like it.
What about Rudy? I suppose it's a boys name but... I beg to differ. ;)
I've got an Ellis too. And a Nile. Both a bit unusual. I also like Carter & Regan.
so do i in the sweeney!
dizzybird77 29-05-2008, 08:27 I love:
Xander
Vaughan
Xavier
My OH hated all of these and so I picked a welsh name that is spelt nothing like it sounds, I know spend every day repeating his name and spellin g it to everyone!!!!!!
Still love it, but not sure it was such a good idea:hihi:
honeyb35 29-05-2008, 09:34 If I ever had another boy its going to be Zachery or Tobias. OH isnt having a say :hihi:
What about Dylan? Byron, Ethan, Felix, Frankie, Jude, Leo, Ashton, Rhys, Toby.
*Peaches* 30-05-2008, 07:27 I really like Sebastian, Gabriel and Alexander still...
cosywolf 30-05-2008, 12:29 I liked Toby, but my OH says its a 'fat' name and refused to entertain it. He also mentioned Toby jugs.
*sigh*
*Peaches* 30-05-2008, 12:29 How can a name be fat?
cosywolf 30-05-2008, 12:31 How can a name be fat?
Who knows?
*Peaches* 30-05-2008, 12:33 lol! My mum recons Gabriel is a girls name, no love, thats Gabrielle
honeyb35 31-05-2008, 10:36 lmao @ 'fat' names, my (male!) friend tried to put me off toby by saying it was a 'dogs' name, i think he knew someone with a yorkie terrier called it lol. I liked Oliver as well, and my OH kept singing songs from it...
What about Nathan, peter or andrew.
Ronan is my favourited name too :)
I also like Xander and Nile
I liked Roman and but eventually settled for Rohan. I think it's Persian but a lot of people think I got it off Lord of the Rings (the City of Rohan)
x-GiGgLeS-x 25-06-2008, 08:28 Sorry I've had ot edit this.. This post can be removed
missrabbit 30-03-2009, 16:51 My OH wants to name our baby Zero if we have a boy.....he thinks this is such a cool name. I disargree but am all for quirky, different names. What do you think?
I don't mind quirky names, but I think I'd have a different opinion if I'd been made to go through life being called Zero.
Why would anyone want to call their child 'nothing'?
missrabbit 30-03-2009, 17:03 That is what i said but he recons that it is really cool and is sticking with it as i get to name if girl.
I also like quirky names, but Zero is a number.
Plain Talker 30-03-2009, 17:08 The only "zero" I know is Zero Mostel
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Mostel
The thing to think about, is how much Mickey-taking an unusual name could get a child.
My ex hubby's father insisted on a very short name, so that it could not be shortened. Guess what?? It didn't matter a jot, he got a nickname- he was known by his initial...!!!
(and I was Mrs-Initial! :hihi: )
If it's a boy, then the only other thing you'll have to think about is if the given name works with the family name. (eg, not "Orson Carter") Whereas if you have a girl, you need to think about the given name working with the current family name, as a child, and the family name of her future partner when she is grown.
I would urge you not to go for a faddy name. Quirky, sure, but not one that will be a burden to the child, or one that s/he can't abide.
Plain Talker 30-03-2009, 17:12 as a PS:- my Grandma's dad, my great-grandpa, named his first-born son, my uncle Joe, after himself; Elias Joseph... when my grandfather came home with my grandma, to meet the family, and discovered what he had been christened, he said
"Bl**dy h*ll... did yer 'ave a grudge against 'im, or what?!"
(now, I actually think it's a nice name; Elias is the Greek version of Elisha/Elijah)
Debbie22 30-03-2009, 17:16 why do people insist on choosing weird names. i agree with you zero is not a good name for any child. my daughter is about to give birth any day now and have chosen amy rose for a girl and jake matthew for a boy although she has been told she is having a girl :)
Kokomobl 30-03-2009, 17:19 I'm all up for FF names
Leon, Tidus, Zee, Wakka!
And if I ever strike it lucky with a baby girl I want to call her either
Leanna-Lee / Amy-Lee, love those names.
angelwing 30-03-2009, 17:20 My OH wants to name our baby Zero if we have a boy.....he thinks this is such a cool name. I disargree but am all for quirky, different names. What do you think?
Love the name what about River
Zeek, Troy, Chucky, Randy, Dufus..................any of them take your fancy?
Picking a child's name isn't easy. Beware of 'trendy' names. What's trendy now won't seem so trendy when there are ten other kids with the same name in his class. And don't do weird spellings, either. You don't want to sentence the poor kid to a lifetime of having to spell his name for people. Do you know any teachers? They can usually tell you which names are overused.
Does he mean like Zero Mostel?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Mostel
Zero just has such negative connotations. It means nothing and there is every likelihood that some people will see your son as 'nothing', ie not worth bothering with.
Your husband really needs to think again for the sake of his son, supposing he has one.
I hope you are having a girl.
How long you got left? Hopefully he'll change his mind!
Vulcan B2 30-03-2009, 18:51 Noooooo! Please don't allow it! Choose something that won't get him bullied at school.
What have you chosen for a girl's name?
Jillybabes 30-03-2009, 19:35 What is he thinking, poor kid going through life as a Zero. If he likes Z names why not Zack, Zoe, Zara. Get a book with baby names but think of it carefully, afterall the child has got it for life, good luck x
boyfriday 30-03-2009, 19:39 I strongly suggest you register the birth without his knowledge :)
Stupid name, the lad will never forgive you!
He`ll get the right p*ss took out of him.
Stupid name, the lad will never forgive you!
He`ll get the right p*ss took out of him.
Definitely agree with you!
shanes teeth 30-03-2009, 20:28 Why not be different from all the other Zero's and call him Xero?An unusual name is character building.
no 1 carpman 30-03-2009, 20:30 My firt name is tuesday because when my dad saw me he said to my mum i think well call it a day.
Calling a baby "Zero" would have the same effect as calling it "Tw@t!";)
missrabbit 31-03-2009, 11:17 Thanks. Thought it was just me that thought it was rubbish! I like Violet for a girl. Can be shortened to Vi also.
Do you think that if i couldnīt change his mind and had a boy they would let me do a swap at the hospital? If i explained the situation? :)
perplexed 31-03-2009, 12:39 My OH wants to name our baby Zero if we have a boy.....he thinks this is such a cool name. I disargree but am all for quirky, different names. What do you think?
I suspect that baby may not thank anyone for such a moniker in later life. How about chosing something a little more conventional for the first name, and the quirky name as a middle name? Then he can choose to use the wacky name in adulthood if he wants, and if not he can ignore it? :) Everyone's happy then! :o
I pity any poor child with daft names,or names spelt in a very different way! The child will be teased at school and, or will always be saying 'they don't spell my name like that' Parents bestow names on the children THEY like, the child might not like it when they grow up. I have always hated mine, a long Christian name, middle name AND surname, what were my parents thinking of?!!
ukstudent 31-03-2009, 13:03 I wouldn't like to be called zero.
Change your husbands mind!
mj.scuba 31-03-2009, 14:13 How about Hero, then he's literally gone from Zero to Hero?:hihi:
missrabbit 31-03-2009, 14:16 How about Hero, then he's literally gone from Zero to Hero?:hihi:
He may go for that. I prefer it. Although, i would spell it Hiro, like the guy from Heroes. We love that programme!
Kthebean 31-03-2009, 14:18 No no no no no. Dont call him zero. Please. I'll pay you.
what about zorro if he really wants the child to go through life being ridiculed ,if some of the parents like these strange names so much why dont they change theirs by deed poll
epiphany 31-03-2009, 14:53 My OH wants to name our baby Zero if we have a boy.....he thinks this is such a cool name. I disargree but am all for quirky, different names. What do you think?
"Zero! Time for dinner!"
"How was school, Zero?"
"Zero! Why are you covered in mud? I just washed these!"
"Time to go Zero, hurry up!"
"Zero, you shouldn't be having sex at your age"
"I don't care that your friend One thinks he's better than you, Zero"
I don't think it works, personally. I hope your OH cometh to his senseth.
twibstix 31-03-2009, 14:57 If I ever had kids (which is unlikely in the extreme as I was told years ago I am barren (doctors words not mine)) then they would be
Seth Caleb
Loveday Amulet Raven Kay
Serena Eve
Swan_Vesta 31-03-2009, 14:59 Can you imagine it in the playground?
Kids taking the mickey doing Joey Deacon impressions coupled with cocked handed spacktardery with their tongues wedged in their bottom lip:
Mnnuuuuuuuurgh! Zeeeeeero! in retarded sing song voices?
Your OH may as well call the child tampon and be done with it.
mj.scuba 31-03-2009, 15:00 What about Milo or Mylo?
Sorry if it doesn't appeal, just trying to think of something short and unusual.:)
missrabbit 31-03-2009, 15:46 I have always like Jack and Robert (after my gpa) but my dog is called Jack so canīt have same name as him.
I love really old fashioned names for girls like Violet, Ivy, Rose (why are all old ladies named after flowers?).
Or colour names such as Violet (again), Scarlet or even Red.
Eileen80 31-03-2009, 16:36 Zero... it sounds good but not as a name for your son. It reminds me the Smashing Pumpkins song. Please think of the cons: your child being bullied at school, or being moked any time they have maths classes and the teacher says "add a zero". Ask your OH not to be too cruel with your son. There are so many cool names to choose from, go for exotic names if you are looking for a different name.
Mythology helps as well or check the link Alternativebabynames
I don't like the name one bit, but I see nothing wrong with calling the child that. It all depends on what the surname is too.
Valeting 31-03-2009, 16:46 I think when naming a child (boy or girl) you should take into account certain factor.......
The initials........ No point calling your daughter something 'quirky' like Bee if her surname is Atch.....!!!!
Also you have to be careful calling them 'quirky' names, as much as YOU may think it sounds 'cool' or a 'name to remember' it's the child that has to carry the name NOT YOU and other kids can be very cruel when it comes to name calling.
They may even ask you when they get old enough what the hell were you thinking when naming them which again may come back to bite you....
Just my opinion
MonkeyLover 01-04-2009, 17:47 I agree with most people on here - it's horrible. I don't like any trendy unusual names though.
Nigel Womersle 02-04-2009, 23:07 Even if he became a child prodigy, some unkind person would refer to him as 'Zero by name. Zero by nature'. Please don't let it happen. There are many other unusual names.
pinklilbean 02-04-2009, 23:44 I have a Malaysian friend called Hiro.
A couple I know named their baby Jaxx... As in the band Basement Jaxx. I think it's a little bit... Quirky.
I guess you could compromise, and go with Zero as a middle name?? :)
HarmOKnee 03-04-2009, 01:11 I don't understand parents who can make their kids go through life with stupid names. Why don't you just get your OH a hamster and let him name that Zero? :D
I know someone called Nemo!
HappyHoosier 03-04-2009, 04:03 I say name the child after a sportswear brand. Imagine how proud little Adidas, Nike or Reebok will feel when he goes to school with personalized T-shirts, trainers and gym bags.
ETA: If you do decide to stick with Zero, your baby's nickname could be Zip! If you have a girl, you could name her Nada. How about Nil? Zilch? The Ol' Goose Egg?
Ms Macbeth 03-04-2009, 05:19 I agree with most people on here - it's horrible. I don't like any trendy unusual names though.
I rarely like the 'trendy' ones either - I much prefer classic names. I think its lovely how some of the old names have made a comeback too.
I currently know little boys called William, Thomas, Benjamin, Edward & Sam, and like all of those. If I was a young parent nowadays, I'm fairly sure I'd go for something similar, but it's all down to personal choice. :| Relatives have babies called Oscar and Harrison and I'm not as keen on those - others will take a completely opposite view.
if it had started on April 1st i would have swore this was an April fool
Zero is a terrible name for a baby...please dont let him have it
why not go for 'Ace' if you like quirky names...
missrabbit 03-04-2009, 08:38 if it had started on April 1st i would have swore this was an April fool
Zero is a terrible name for a baby...please dont let him have it
why not go for 'Ace' if you like quirky names...
I like Ace! It makes me think of Ace Ventura...Pet Detective! Which iīm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing.
shanes teeth 03-04-2009, 11:12 I like Ace! It makes me think of Ace Ventura...Pet Detective! Which iīm not sure is a good thing or a bad thing.
Or the drunken Viz character Eight Ace!
Or the drunken Viz character Eight Ace!
:hihi:
Then you could also call your daughter Millie Tant.
If your OH insists on Zero, only allow it as a middle name. A first name should be one that's reasonably normal. Our lad has a very, very unusual name which is impossible to pronounce or spell unless you know your Anglo-Saxon poetry - but we kept it as a middle name and gave him a popular, traditional first name instead.
The slightly mad middle name can be his secret 'power' name instead ;)
arachnophobe 03-04-2009, 12:47 Please don't call your child Zero. You will be giving him a permanent obstacle he doesn't need in life, especially at an early age. We all encounter enough problems without a ridiculous name to contend with as well. :help:
He will resent your partner for naming him that, and resent you for letting him do it. When he is older he'll have to decide whether to keep the name that invited unflattering comments throughout his school life, or change it and deal with all the hassle that goes along with that.
And all that because your partner thought the name was cool? Give him a kick up the backside and tell him to change his own name if he likes it that much! :D If he refuses to change his mind register the kid with a normal name in secret!
Again, please please please don't call your child Zero. ;)
Vulcan B2 06-04-2009, 20:07 Thanks. Thought it was just me that thought it was rubbish! I like Violet for a girl. Can be shortened to Vi also.
Do you think that if i couldnīt change his mind and had a boy they would let me do a swap at the hospital? If i explained the situation? :)
Aww Violet is lovely, you can't go wrong with good old fashioned names, and they are quite in fashion again!
Every time I hear Oscar, I think of Bill Murray in Ghostbusters (can't remember which one) upon learning Sigourney Weaver named her baby Oscar, he exclaims, "you poor little man, named after a hot dog!" :D
I liked Ulysses for a boy but we settled on something else
joanne p 15-04-2009, 15:15 hello i need help picking a boys name i want something diffrent but nice any idea,s ......................?
you could try a different spelling of an ordinary name, or do a Becks and name him after the place he was conceived...
But do think of when the child will go to school, and perhaps be teased for the name. So perhaps John Thomas isn't a good choice ;) I look forward to what folk come up with.
Bailey? Brandon? kai? Alysia? Alfie? Finley?
calebscarlet 15-04-2009, 15:44 caleb>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
joanne p 15-04-2009, 15:53 i love alfie and kie but thay is lots off alfie,s i have never heard off kie i like that......xthanks rachett..x
