View Full Version : Are Advent laptops any good? RichJester 26-01-2007, 19:39 I've never heard of Advent. I saw a cheap one just wondered if anyone new if they are any good? Ghozer 26-01-2007, 21:20 Advent are the bottom end of mid ranged laptops, low end being the 'cheap' ones such as that one in PCWorld for £199 and the one for £99 etc... Advent are 'throwaway' laptops, and not reccomended for gaming or children, new businesses and students they are ok... but cant take much of a beating.. sam1984 26-01-2007, 22:04 Advent are the bottom end of mid ranged laptops, low end being the 'cheap' ones such as that one in PCWorld for £199 and the one for £99 etc... Oh great my laptops an Advent :( Was about £500 so wouldnt like to have to 'throw' it away! Ghozer 27-01-2007, 10:00 I dont mean it literally, Obviously there are higher spec advents, but compare them to the same spec Toshiba or something.. Its like comparing Alba to Sony etc.. sallonoroff 27-01-2007, 10:36 I've never heard of Advent. I saw a cheap one just wondered if anyone new if they are any good? No. I can't say it any simpler than that. Avoid them. . D2J 27-01-2007, 11:06 Never had a problem with my advent before I sold it on, I had it for 4 years, never went wrong. It's all a fad to just con you into buying the more expensive model. In my personal opinion I've had more problems with HP and Toshiba products. Ghozer 27-01-2007, 15:50 well Toshiba are the amstrad of the Laptop world (Always having problens, and not the 'cheapest' out there) and HP arent much better than Advent, they are around the same range imho Hanksy 27-01-2007, 17:45 My Advent broke within 2 years, had a replacement advent which has just gone, within 14 mths, going to ring the insurance again!!! My Toshiba however is great!!!! Ghozer 27-01-2007, 18:42 Well, the life expentency on (i'd say) around 90% of laptops is only 2-3 years, especially the cheap(er) ones, Such as Advent, Acer, HP, e-Machines etc, the higher spec, Sony, Fujitsu Siemens, ASUS, and some models of DELL are epxpected for 4-6 years, partially due to the un-upgradability factor (which is getting better) but also partly because people want affordable laptops, so the cheaper ones HAVE to exist.. dont get me wrong, if your Starting a business, or if your a poor student, or someone like me (Un able to work at the moment) and if you want NEW then Advent are fine, but try and pay the extra for an extras year warrantee etc... Check the prices on advent+extended warrantee compared to the better makes, and go for the best option, because with advent, I feel you'd really need the extra year warrantee... sallonoroff 28-01-2007, 11:06 Toshiba are ... Always having problens, and not the 'cheapest' out there ... and HP arent much better than Advent Advent are utter rubbish. Made from the cheapest of the cheap. All produced by different third-parties for DSG. If you get one that lasts a while, you're lucky - obviously it was made by one of the better companies. I'll grant you some of the 'low end' Toshibas aren't amazing, but i'd prefer one of them over an Advent any day. And HP aren't even comparable... they're leagues above Advent... . sexyny 29-01-2007, 21:25 What about Packard Bell and Philips Laptops, How do they fair? |
