a friend is thinking about putting a party on at this venue and has asked me what i think of it but i haven't been there.what do you all think of it?

I like it, has some good events on every so often.

It used to be good, I've not been down for a while so i don't know what it is like at the moment. The Expansion night down there is always good for a laugh.

I've not been in ages but heard from DJs I know that there has been a lot of attitude there, and advised not to go any more because of some moodies who attend. Shame, 'cos I had some amazing nights there a couple of years ago.

The Earl is and always will be a good venue.

the vibe in that place hasn't changed in the years i've been going if anything it has only got better!!

We were there just over a year back, used to really enjoy it, but this night there was a fight. Some guys were trying to get in and the doormen shut the door. Half an hour later we went to leave (2 girls) got in my mates car and the guys came back. One of em put his fist through the window in my mates car. No reason whatsoever. I did a night called Spannered down there for a couple of years. I saw it turn from one of the best venues in Sheffield to almost the new niche. There was talk of protection rackets and the BBC but I'm not sure there is any truth in those rumours.

The main problem it had was the fact that a lot of violent people have banning orders put on them to stop them entering the city centre on Friday and Saturday nights. The Earl is just outside the banning order radius, opens late and had softish security so it attracted a fair few hooligans and their hangers on. The actual main boys weren't really a problem, I know a few of them from years ago, it was the younger ones with their Stone Island and baseball caps.

so what happened well over a year ago when the Earl was ran by a load of idiots who where pretty much clueless about how to run a bar and security will put you off for life? :confused:

Come on mate wake up and smell the coffee - there's trouble all over the place especially at late night clubs & bars. I've been plenty of times this year and have to say the security have been top notch and there's not been the slightest bit of trouble! Also when did the earl turn into a so called "niche" venue?? I don't remember that?:suspect:

Have you been since the new owners took over?

my advice is to check it out for yourself rather than believe an ex promoter from the earl who clearly has a bitter feel for the place!

there was a couple of "niche" nights down at the earl but never saw any trouble down there and it wasn't the usual set of niche clubbers or should i say the ones who only go out to brawl!! The earl is always ok and security is much more better now the new owners have took over! Drinks r cheap and there is a nice buzz about the place!

I used to visit the Earl last year when FutureFunk started, for the first few months it was sport on, the dancefloor was packed, ramdoms where chatting and it was filled with a 'feel good vibe'. There was one night when its all went abit messy, seemed like the locals where just getting to drunk and causing trouble and the feel good vide just wasnt the same, then FutureFunk discovered Fez Club, they where the days!!!

Haven't been back since it was taken under new management but the pub has a good layout and when its good, its good! The more light minded people that go the more the trouble makers will find somewhere else to go.

(And end up buying Fez/Scuba Club!!)

I'm not bitter, I had a great time at the earl and met some great people.
In my first post on the thread I said i hadn't been down for a while so I wasn't sure what it like at the moment, some people have told me it's getting back to where it was and I hope it does, it's a great venue ( apart from the toilets) .

As and when is this venue currently open? I was thinking of going for a pint this evening but it seems to be closed half the time. Any ideas?
