I'm fancying trying my hand at a bit of waxing and wondered if anyone on SF had any experience with any products out there and which they'd recommend?

I've tried the strips before and I've found em to be PANTS so probably looking at something like that one you warm in the microwave, or that purple on??

Isn't sugaring meant to be less painful? Is it as good though?

Thanks!!!!

I go to the salon too- I just don't have the manual dexterity to do it myself (cos one of my arms is partially paralysed).

When I did try to do it myself, I have found the Body Shop sugaring kit really easy and convenient to use- but I couldn't reach much of one leg so there wasn't much point to it.

to be honest, ive never found a decent home waxing system. ive always left it to the experts for waxing.

however, i bought myself an epilator last year and havent looked back since. same results, different process and not half as messy or expensive!

The only time i ever tried waxing my legs,i ripped the strip off,leaving..............................

.......the wax  It was terrible and took weeks to remove the wax which kept removing fibres from my trousers. I ended up with a fabricy patch of fluff in a perfect rectangle shape.on my shin :help:

Should anything similar ever happen again, would it help you to know that a piece of kitchen roll with baby oil on will fetch off excess wax?

Veet roll on hot wax is good, you warm it in a pan of water and use provided strips (although muslin works too) to remove it. I do my friends legs for her as she isn't brave enough to do it herself and I'm a bit sadistic :hihi:

Don't let it get too hot though as it burns like a bitch.

I use Nads and find that to be good. Lasts for ages as well.

Used to use one of those that you heat up in it's own a special electric holder thing and that was fine. Then I saw the advert on tv for Nads, said it was painless so thought I'd give it a try. It is a lot less painful that what I was using and lasts a lot longer. I only do my legs tho. Have my eyebrows done by someone who knows what they are doing. Anywhere else - err, no wax. :)

I did try to wax under my arms once. WOW. Never again. Really painful so I stick to the Immac/Veet now for there.

I've done my own underarms, legs and bikini line- but all of them are less painful done by someone else.

I've been doing it myself for years. The veet pot that comes in a box and you heat in the microwave is the only one I use. I normally tip it into my wax-heater (which I bought from India for £1).

I've tried the bodyshop sugar stuff and wasn't impressed.

The Body Shop's sugaring is excellent, this coming from someone who used to work as a beautician.

I use it often, on eyebrows, legs, bikini lines, backs, etc, it is very good indeed and the results long-lasting.

Waxing yourself is OK on some parts but the one thing I wouldn't advise is underarm waxing yourself; you might rip your nose off (I'm only half joking). Bikini line is a bit dodgy too, especially if it hurts the first time and you daren't rip it off again. But you can always wash off the sugar, it's water soluble.

Some hints
* Don't let the sugar become too hot
* Apply it in the direction of the hair growth
* Rub the strip very quickly with a bunched up fist to keep the heat and then
* Rip it off very quickly parallel to the body. Keeping your hand on the surface of the skin can help you to do this.

Good luck
