Hiya,

Yay, I've sorted PB 2, now comes a new problem that has arisen. I took out the DVDRW out of PB 1 to use to load up XP onto PB 2. So, I thoguht I'd stick the 2nd CD drive back into the PB - so i shut it all down, and unscrewed the case - slot the 2nd drive back into the slot shoved the power into the 2nd drive and BANG, with well, what can only be described as well an electric current - a flash of light. And silence.
Oh well (more like OH F**K), i thought . Kept pressing the power on button, and nothing. Left it 5 mins and pressed power on , no problems, in fact i am playing a dvd from this drive now.
So, any ideas on what it was that caused it to go bang? PSU? Faulty DVD drive? Or just too quick on putting it back in? Should I be wary of anything going in the immeditate future?

What on earth is a PB when it's at home?!

Acronym requires explanation...

...as for the rest... well if you got a bang then it's entirely possible you hadn't powered down after all but actually rebooted instead..

Failing that, you have a possible short between your CPU, power lead and other parts of your PC... That the Drive still powers up.. in fact ANY of it still powers up is pretty amazing...

In future unplug the PC and be sure to ground yourself to remove any static charge before playing with the inside of a PC.

Oh hold up..

PB = packard bell...

Ok.. pet peeve.. that is not a standard acronym... it took a few minutes to work out what on earth you were talking about...

Stop it! :loopy: ;)

Ah yes, that's when you rub the case - we have to do that in College.

Why not have a go and build your own PC, next time round, im sure you could build a decent spec machine for less than a Packard Bell, Compaq or HP, at least you'll know whats gone into it component wise and shouldnt cause you problems should you wish to carry out future upgrades.

Oh, I will be doing that next time around, defo - as I'll know what's gone into it.

Then I can prioritise on what I want.
