View Full Version : What Manga's good?
NEKRO138 25-01-2007, 11:55 I've started watching quite a bit of manga/anime. So far, I've seen Ninja Scroll, Akira, Blood: The Last Vampire, Ghost in the Shell and both Vampire Hunter D films.
I've found a place on the internet where I can watch all 50 episodes of the Blood+ series too.
So, anyone got anything they can recommend?
I'm not bothered about hentai, I want the really violent weird stuff. Cheers.
lol why would anyone send you hentai if you asked for movies? hentais just cartoon porn..i like spirited away but its not evry violent so..i dunno sorry:huh:
Heat Guy J is pretty good and the entire series is only £25 at HMV at the moment.
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a classic, and absolutely mental.
Devil Man was always a personal favourite of mine, but it's not for everyone.
Cowboy Bebop is the greatest anime series ever.
Trigun is just cool.
Spriggan makes no sense but looks good and the fighting is great.
Streetfighter II is also good, and everyone should watch that and forget the Van Damme version.
Howl's moving Castle is tops, sort of a follow up to Spirited Away iirc.
They'd got it on DVD in HMV the other week, I was tempted but I'm under orders from Parents to cut back on my spending a bit.
Beakerzoid 25-01-2007, 13:37 Wings of the Honeamise is my all time favourite anime.
NEKRO138 25-01-2007, 13:42 Wicked, cheers, I'll check them out. I did see some Cowboy Bebop and that looked good.
Reason I said I don't want hentai is because a lot of people are into it for that and recommended some to me. Not for me though.
Funky_Gibbon 25-01-2007, 13:51 Last Exile and Samurai 7 are both excellent series.
Wings of the Honeamise is my all time favourite anime.
Such a good film. The dub was good as well, actually, back when Manga Entertainment could do good dubs.
plekhanov 25-01-2007, 14:14 Future Boy Conan is by far the best anime series I've ever seen not very violent though.
Full Metal Alchemist is an excellent and rather dark series
Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex is good (& violent) if extremely confusing.
Agent Gypo 25-01-2007, 14:37 Over the years I've seen loads of Manga (my mate loves it) yet still the only one I'd ever watch again is Akira.
Mang seems to have lots of fans that like it 'because it's Manga'. Some nice animation on show though. Maybe I haven't seen the right films.

Totally agree with that, I didn't like it before, but I watched a film called Blood: The Last Vampire, which is oly 45 minutes long and I really enjoyed it.
I just love the way it looks, and the storyline was interesting because there was purposefully no character development whatsoever. The series of it I'm watching now though, Blood+ is all to do with that.
I reckon it's the same as anything though, you get good stuff, and garbage.
Have to say also, I'm surprised how many folk on here watch manga. Cheers to everyone. If I see anything I like, I'll let you know.
Howl's moving Castle is tops
I expected a lot from that film, but is was a big let down, the story was just too boring, and silly.
mjlacey21 25-01-2007, 15:40 Fist of The North Star :)
Don't even talk about Howl's Moving Castle - I loved that book when I was a kid and they slaughtered it!
Crying freeman and wicked city two of my favs.
Also try Tank police and hellsing if you can find it i got to ep17 then the site went down.
I know its not Manga but give Starship Troopers the seris ago...
I watched Akira when it was on BBC2 a few years ago, good film but a bit too long IMO.. Too much dialogue as well I thought, made it hard to focus on teh action when you're reading the English captions to translate teh dialogue.

Wicked City is a brilliant film.

Seriously, someone should ban you for doing that.
GabbleRatcht 26-01-2007, 08:53 Rich mentioned it, but you can't get much better than Spirited Away. Fabulous film. I bought Howls Moving Castle, but haven't watched it yet.
Have got Akira - which is brilliant and also I love Devil Man
Banjo Griner 27-01-2007, 03:37 No-one's mentioned Bleach. It's a series, rather than a film - which means there's about 30 hours out there to grab, but it's interesting subject material and well-executed. In places a lot of fun, in others dark-as-hell, it's worth sticking with. The characters are cool - I like Ichigo's dad the best because he's a cross between competitive dad off the Fast Show, and Kato off the Pink Panther.
