View Full Version : What DS games do you have that are brilliant?
TattyBear 24-01-2007, 19:52 I have these games and here is what Ithink of them (only had ds since xmas)
1) New super mario bros....I find this really hard and get fed up when you cant save it at each level.
2) Sims 2 pets.............Boring after a while
3) Yoshi touch and go.............Impossible to get on leader bored so end up doing same thing over and over again, whats the point?
4) Over the hedge..........Really hard, stuck on a level so will probably never play it again (like mario)
5) Open season........only got it the other day, finding it ok, some bits difficult.
As you can see I struggle with most games...............
Anyone recommend any for useless players like me
laughalot01 24-01-2007, 19:59 bought my daughter ds for xmas with dogs even i enjoyed that an just bought her brain train for her birthday she been askin for that as well any1 recommend any

I got my DS at Xmas too. Got Madagascar - bored after an hour. Incredibles - bored after 15 minutes. Brain Training - loved it at first, not so enthusiastic now. Just borrowed Sims 2 - loving it. Was thinking about getting one of the Yoshi games, not sure whether I'll like them though.
candystick 24-01-2007, 20:13 I'm addicted to animal crossing, also enjoy brain training but there are not enough sodoku games on it.
also got
Over the Hedge
Big Brain Academy
Crash Boom bang
and Tetris
TattyBear 24-01-2007, 20:15 melthebell-how hard is mario cart?
how hard is yoshi island?
laughalot01 24-01-2007, 20:44 wots the brain train like its for my 11 year old wud she find it good do u think mind u its wot she askd for so
melthebell 24-01-2007, 20:50 errrrrrrrrm not sure tbh
dont think theyre that hard to start with, but then get harder as you progress.
if you like driving games and platfor games then theyre two of the best ever
oh i forgot zoo keeper too, awesome puzzle game
Yoshi's Island is easy... Typical Mario game IMO, but then it helps that I used to have the original SNES version and this is almost an exact port of that.
Super Mario 64 DS is an almost exact port of Super Mario 64 from the N64 console, so if you've played any of that you'll have no trouble with it.
As for other games, Tetris rocks! Especially if you can set the wi-fi connection up to play online against other people, same for Mario Kart, normally I hate driving games, but Mario Kart is so much fun I love it.
Dr Kawashima's Brain Training - Another top game, really makes you think about stuff, although Sudoku makes my brain bleed.
Nintendogs is overrated IMO, sure it's good for kids and the dogs are cute, but £29.99 for a glorified virtual pet?! What the heck?! :loopy:
Finally if you fancy something a bit different, try Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney, the storylines on it are great, in fact I review it in depth on my games blog (see my sig for link).
Wodoish!!! 24-01-2007, 20:56 You won't find a more addictive game for the ds than Mario Kart DS
(Especially using wifi connection to play online)
TattyBear 24-01-2007, 21:06 I must be thick but I think new mario is the hardest game ever! and so annoying that you cant save it!
is yoshi island just the same?
I might try mario kart.

yoshi saves every level, rather than about every 6 or 10
TattyBear 24-01-2007, 21:40 I will go to game tomorrow and trade in over the hedge and maybe sims pets or something, I really fancy mario kart and yoshi island.
After owning the DS for a few months, no one plays it anymore, it's just gathering dust. Going to sell it on ebay.

Don't use GAME for trade ins, their trade in prices are crap.. I traded Rumble Roses XX on Xbox 360 towards Yoshi's Island last week at the Fargate one, the 360 game was bought for £50 last year, trade in price was £13 for a boxed, good condition disc with very few if any scratches, complete with instructions... I'd have got more on eBay!
Best trade in prices IMO are CEX or Gamestation.
Great games for the DS:
Mario Kart
Trauma Centre
42 Classic Games in One (great to pickup and play card and board games)
Animal Crossing (sometimes more fun than my actual life)
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
42 All Time Classics...Seconded...Splendid game.

Hi Spicey
My daughter is desperate to get hold of a ds lite, is this the one you have? If so, how much do you want for it, and what games are with it? Might be able to save you ebay fees :)
thanks
Janet
My game works on DS: www.QWAK.co.uk
Well, your relentless advertising worked on me, as I have just ordered my copy now. I am assuming that they are still available if the link is still in your sig.
That looks like just the sort of game that I bought my DS for: something quick to learn, addictive and you can pick up and play for a few minutes or a few hours. Now all I have to do is wait for it to arrive.

Hey, that's great thanks! Yeah, there are loads left mate, hope you'll enjoy it.
TattyBear 25-01-2007, 12:15 I traded in Over the hedge and yoshi touch and go to the value of £30 which I got mario kart! I will let you know what I think when i get home from work and had a play on it!
pennypie 25-01-2007, 14:04 I also have Mario DS - I hate it.
Worms - played it about three times, not crap, but not a fan.
Brain training - the grown up one - played daily for two months, not played for about 4 months.
Sims 2 - The only game I play daily - but completely stuck now trying to kill that Robot thing - anyone know what I am doing wrong? I keep killing it, but then three keep coming back, and then kill them and the main one comes back and just keeps going in circles!
ARGH!!!
boboskins 25-01-2007, 14:19 New Super Mario Bros & Mario Kart DS are classics. Spent hours on those especially playing through wi-fi on Mario Kart but that can get a bit frustrating. I'm sure some people are cheating on that!
Also a game called Elite Beat Agents. It's a rhythm game where you tap out the beats on the touch screen to songs like Let's Dance, Material Girl, Highway Star etc. Check it out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elite_Beat_Agents
Finally the latest game that has me hooked is a game called Cooking Mama. Yep a cooking game and it's bloody addictive http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cooking_mama
These last 2 are out in the US but they'll play on a UK DS. You can pick them up pretty cheap from CD WOW.
Don't have the time to post properly here yet, but my copy of Qwak has arrived and I cannot stop playing it. 80 levels, and I can get to level...six.
Will post a proper response tomorrow.

Hey, glad to hear it mate. Don't forget, only 300 copies of this game exist in the entire universe! *VERY RARE*
pertfoxylush 31-01-2007, 14:06 I've got:
Mario
Project Rub
Big Brain Academy
Brain Training
Happy Feet
I LOVE Mario - he rules!!
My DS collection consists of:
Super Mario 64 DS
Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Pheonix Wright: Ace Attorney
Tetris DS
Pokemon Link
New Super Mario Bros
Super Princess Peach
James Pond: Robocod
Bomberman DS
Yoshi's Island DS
Dr Kawashima's Brain Training
That's 12 DS games so far, and I'm considering getting Starfox DS soon and pre-ordering the next Pheonix Wright game.
My DS collection consists of:
Super Mario 64 DS
Super Mario 64 DS- turning one of my favourite N64 gaming experiences of all time into a frustrating, difficult to control mess. A D-pad, stylus or combination of the two is not good enough for this game. You really need an analogue stick for this one.

I actually can't stop playing this game, and it's made all the worse by the fact that I think I'm rubbish at it!
I'm trying to think of a way to sum up this game, and I think the words I want to use are "old school." Not in the graphics sense, but more in the sense that when you die, it's not because the game is too hard, or something can't be done, you fail because you made a mistake. And when that happens, I just want to pick it up and try again. One phrase I overuse with this game is "Just five more minutes..." and I'm still playing an hour later.
I think this game is charming, if I may use such a word. Easy to pick up, difficult to put down and with 80 levels, I'll still be playing this for a while yet.
If you've got a DS/GBA, you could do a lot worse with £15 than buy this.
I just bought a copy of Qwak.
Played the demo, looks decent, bit of a Bubble Bobble rip off though, not that there's anything wrong there, Bubble Bobble was class in its day.

Thanks for the glowing review hoba! Happy you liked the game!
Even more happy that people from Sheffield (my home town) are buying and enjoying the game.
The game hopefully will have a lot of lastability (is that a word?), it has multiple layers of complexity and challenges, so there's always something new to discover, and fresh ways to do things. Good luck!

Yeah, it's been compared to Bubble Bobble a *LOT*. In fact, it's not like it at all (I will leave you to find this out though Rich).
Thanks once again for buying the game though Rich.
