Waiting for Spring, and thinking about the changes in the garden, then seeing the first flush of green, I always think of a favourite poem ...
Nothing Gold Can Stay (Frost)
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leafs a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Although green shoots are a sign of spring, for many plants such as a willow or birch, the first flush of foilage is in fact gold. A really nice image to hang on to with the weather as it is.
Do you like it too?
